Apple CarPlay Freezing After iOS 18 Update
2019 Camaro ZL1 1LE
iPhone 12 Wired CarPlay Immediately after updating iOS 17.7 to 18.0, Carplay connects but after a few seconds the display on the infotainment screen locks up and then the infotainment system reboots. The Apple forums are horrible. I don't have a valid backup to rollback the update, so my only option is to restore the phone to factory. Infotainment system software is up to date. The phone and Carplay work fine on my 2020 Silverado 2500. Anyone else having this issue or know a solution?

sorry to hear you're having this issue!
Before factory resetting your phone, you might want to try to reset the vehicle first. Should be be much easier to re-setup versus your phone. I would remove all all the user profiles, and then go through and delete the user data, and reset the vehicle in the infotainment system and see if that helps. These are the selections you want to try.
I would also make sure you reset these at least twice in a row, especially the vehicle. I believe the others options may disappear after the first reset. Then after resetting I would turn the ignition off, and leave the vehicle for at least 2 minutes, 5 is probably better. At which point would then re-setup your vehicle settings, and pair your phone back to the vehicle. Hopefully this helps and avoids need to perform a factory reset on your phone. |

Thanks, but I went ahead and bit the bullet by rolling back to 17.6. Works perfectly now. I'll back up the phone after I'm done loading all my junk back on it. Total pain in the ass.

I didn’t go to 18 because of what you said and other comments on the web but I did go to 17.7 and now the CarPlay doesn’t recognize requests to tune to a XM station. I get a message from Siri saying XM doesn’t have that but it used to work.

I’m having the same problem. I removed fuse 16 & 55 from the trunk, cleaned them & pushed them back in properly but still no luck. I’ll try wiping the data from the car next.

Glad I ran into this thread. I've been looking at replacing my infotainment system because of this same issue.
I'm assuming there's no fix yet? |

@Badmojo Are you connecting via USB or Bluetooth?
A handful of users with GM cars report no problems with direct connection, but most of the rest of what I see is not good. I always wait a while before installing new iOS updates and have not updated to iOS 18. It seemed there were too many changes that might mess with apps I use. Thanks for this thread helping me decide to wait. Last edited by danomar; 12-12-2024 at 06:02 PM. |

I had the same issue in my 2021 GMC Yukon, just unpaired and repaired the phone all is well.
