2) I am fairly certain KingLt1’s comment that he quoted was in regards to PHYSICALLY deleting the afm lifters from the engine which a dealer will absolutely not do. This I know manual drivers can do since we all have the lifters.

But you are correct since the OP has a M6(I missed that part), AFM is already turned off in the tune. The best solution would be to delete AFM hardware all together, but the dealership likely won't do that as you mentioned.

Do you guy's think GM will investigate what went wrong with the blown up motor? I know the dealer does not care anymore once it's an approved warranty fix. I would just be curious to know "what exactly" went wrong with it despite babying this vehicle...Can I call GM directly to share these findings with me? Or do they just scrap these motors away?

Mine blew in 2022. They only tore the engine down enough to verify the need for replacement. So you might hear about what they found was destroyed (the first critical part they could observe), but not necessarily any trace to the cause. I know that I had one or more spun rod bearings and nothing punched out of the block.
I too was interested in the root cause so that I might be able to do something to better protect the next engine. I have a PDR so was able to look at the data (it blew during a track event). Might possibly have been an oil pump failure, but the oil temps started rising (ultimately reaching +50F beyond the normal track temp) a full minute before there was any significant noticeable drop in oil pressure. Guess it will remain a mystery. |

The cause was my hot-rodding it. I bought a new one from LME.

I believe the same motor is being used in the C7's? I'm going to do some research and see in their forums if engines going kaboom is as common as the 6th gens....if it's not, whats working against us?

I’ll admit I’ve seen a little too many newer LT1’s popping than I’d like to see but I think the biggest thing we have against us is being on these forums and FB pages. No one is going to post when their motors AREN’T blowing up. So when people post that their engine blew up it will seem like it happens more often than it actually does. Remember there are thousands of folks with these cars whose engines haven’t blown up.

AFM is the main reason to buy a manual with these cars. Since OP has a manual I don't think AFM is the culprit since its basically disabled.
![]() Who'd a thunk it, you tun off 4 cylinders to save gas on a v8 and it has side effects. I thunk it, I thunk it when I first heard about it.
