Hate to admit my stupidity, but I'd like some peace of mind

So, this past weekend was the Woodward Dream Cruise here in Michigan, and the weather ended up cooperating in a wonderful way.

It was my first dream cruise in my new Camaro and I was a little dumb in an attempt to make some kids smile.

I haven't done many burn outs in my car (Uh, $450 tires, may the gods help me) so my ability was below novice.

By the end of my cruise, the smell of clutch was strong.

I haven't driven it since Saturday evening, but I couldn't detect any change in performance.

For my own peace of mind, I'm wondering how much potential wear I could have caused my clutch. These were all launch based burnouts with short distance between me and the car in front of me. So I was a bit nervous to let off the clutch too much before needing to stop again.

Now I know this wasn't the smartest thing, and I don't plan on doing any more any time soon, however I am just looking to see how forgiving these things are, or if I am going to be replacing my clutch in 20k miles. . . (Currently just under 3,000)

Just a stupid dude looking for some words of encouragement, as I continue to learn this car.

Are there any signs I should be on the lookout for as I continue to drive?

no one knows man. You can roast these pretty good though and itll be fine. As long as the clutch still holds and dosn't slip just keep driving it.

Hmm, did you forget to turn off TCS before the burnouts? The ECM may have applied rear brakes much deeper than you did to compensate and then your clutch had to overcome that as well.

That said, I read in several places that the clutch in the M6 was pretty stout, it's unlikely that you would've destroyed it already with a few 2-3-second burnouts. Let's hear from the M6 guys, though, I have an automatic, so I have different burnout concerns.

To be completely honest, it was my first time turning off the TC and attempting burnouts at all.

I had one of my young cousins in the car and he said "This is the best day of my life" so I have that going for me lmao.

I drove the car last night and it felt fine, so fingers crossed I didn't shorten the life too much.

I just had my trans rebuilt last week by a shop in MI. Had them look at my stock clutch with 40k miles. Fortunately for me as a corner carver burnouts have never been my thing. Subsequently my clutch was in pristine shape and not replaced during the trans r&r.

The impression I got from the shop was activities you just described do shorten the life of our clutch. You likely took some time off it and caused premature wear. Hard to say how much. Depends on how you drive going forward when it will need replaced. No judgement . I've done the cruise. It's brutal on the knee and the clutch no matter how you drive.

Anytime you smell clutch you've reduced the lifespan and caused some premature wear. Learn from it going forward. It's not the end of the world and clutches can be replaced.

Yeah, kind of where I am at. Lots of learning being done with this car. Don't plan on doing any more burnouts any time soon.

The OE clutch belongs in a tank. Very stout, very heavy. The friction disc material is plentiful. I would still prefer an aftermarket clutch just due to weight savings alone, but the stock unit should take glazing quite well and be able to recover from it in short time. If you’ve abused it, just give it time and treat it well, once the glaze wears off it will go back to grabby.

Inspiring, thanks, I do plan to play with the internal bits, and change things around a little once I actually pay the car off. I'm not one to back down from getting my hands dirty.

I am however still holding this vehicle in high regard and with high respect as I am turning 29 in a few days, and I still can't believe I've bought this car lol.

I appreciate everyone here for talking me down from all the minor mistakes I've made so far.

I haven't beat on mine from a dead stop like you described however I have done plenty of NLS to 2nd, 3rd and 4th. The clutch will heat up and smell pretty quick. As others have posted, once it cools though it goes back to being the normal grippy clutch from my experience.

With this positive, honest and respectful attitude you will go far and achieve a lot. I could only wish I'd had anything like my Camaro at 29, and it seems you have a genuine appreciation for the blessing of driving such a fine machine.
Congrats, you're already a winner at life, and never think twice about these mistakes, we all make them (much stupider ones, too, haha)
