So I have my Heads Ported does that also effect what pushrod length I should have? Or is that only milled heads?

Things that will affect pushrod length are head milling, cam, and lifters.

Ah okay, how come most cam kits come with the stock Pushrod length of 7.850?

My stock pushrods were shorter than 7.850. Most cam kits don't come with a single pushrod length, I know for sure that BTR and GPI both have drop-down menus for you to select pushrod length.
GPI cam kit PR length selection: BTR cam kit PR length selection: Where did you get your cam kit?

I ordered mine from BTR over the phone and he chose everything based on what I was going for. And on my receipt it said they were 7.850

I’m confused is there no set stock Pushrod length? Every car varies? So I would need to measure what I need and THEN order them? I had no idea pushrods were this much a headache.

Yes, I’ve only ever been told to measure pushrod length after everything is all assembled. I was recommended 7.850 but when I measured, 7.850 would have only given me .010 of preload.

I run caddy race lifters, BTR 220 cam, & BTR chromoly 7.825 3/8” Dia. pushrods. Everything but the cam straight from BTR, cam was 2nd hand but it’s got their laser engraving so I know it’s legit. I can tell you BTR will want to know if their pushrod failed. When I spoke on the phone with their sales tech he was very insistent that I measure my pushrod length before ordering the pushrods, and I was glad I did. 7.850 would still have worked, but I would have been deeper into the lifter than what I wanted to be. Everyone says the GM race lifters are noisy. Mine aren’t. No insulator under the IM either. Just chop and blower whistle.
The fact that your tuner wants you to put the stock pushrods back in would give me pause. The stockers are fine pushrods, but if you’re running an aftermarket cam, springs, lifters and reving higher/faster, then there is a good chance the OE’s may not last in a performance situation. Not gonna say they *will* fail, but compared to any aftermarket chromoly pushrod, I wouldn’t put money on OE’s to last. Might get you by, but I wouldn’t want my car on the Dyno with stockers in the holes.
