I can't tell all that you plan to do with the tire, but I just took R888R off and put RR on my car for the street. The 888 is as hard as a rock and really for track only. It sucks in the wet and cold on the street. Mine had 18% wheel spin at high speeds

You ain't lyin. I've read those posts, too. It's just nice to have at least a few opinions that seem pretty consistent.

I believe King's had similar experience and opinions as you, too. His stuck out and Kam' reminded me of yours

Yep, it wasn't just me recommending these tires, King does too.

Really is the difference in tire compound and purpose. The R888R is a road racing tire and made to perform when high tire temps can be sustained. The 555R2 has a softer compound made for drag racing that doesn't require as much heat for grip. If we were comparing the R888R to the original 555R, the decision would be much harder if handling were a factor also but the 555R2's stiffer sidewalls and revised compound compared to the original 555R made it a very good performance tire for all arounf performance. If I only had ONE dislike about the 555R2 is that's they don't have wheel guard built into the outer wall of the tire which takes away from their look when mounted on the wheel.

This rating chart is what Nitto themselves say about the 555RII, and it isn't exactly all 5s. Every tire represents a compromise one way or another, it's a bit unfortunate that we can't have a tire that scores 4s and 5s in every category.

555r2 is the best solution imo for a weekend toy that you could still use for long trips if need be. It's not the best drag tire, it's not the best road course tire.. it's the jack of all trades tire. Hooks great dry, fair wet traction, handles good, quiet, balances well, and decent tread life. I have 18.5k miles on my car and getting ready to install a 3rd set. And they would likely go much longer if it wasn't for all the light burnouts before making pulls. I would guestimate 15-20k miles a set if you are being easy on them wouldn't be out of the question.

That's pretty good life! My ET Street SSs didn't last but about 1500-street miles, which isn't surprising I guess, and you have to stay on top of the ball-ing you mentioned (probably not your exact terms, but close enough). That required a good burnout, and they were pretty much back to good, but I'd still get spinning on full E' in anything lower than 5th gear from a roll.

I'll be trying the 555r2s this go around thanks to your guys input.

My RRs have the best traction of any street tire I've tried.

Are you talking about the R888Rs?

No...RR. it's a race tire that is almost a slick but it hooks big power very well.

I run a 315/30/20 and 345/35/18 RR on the ZL1 and C7Z. I have a balloon 315/60/17 555RII’s on the Ram. They both work really well. I think when the new Toyo R comes out and I grab the 325/30’s I can get my ZL1 working really well out of second gear.

I'll be watching to see how you like them. These RR won't last long.
