Still get a little excited at dyno numbers…

After 5+ years of building and racing this car, plus previous ones, I know very well that slips mean much more than a dyno number. That said, I still love seeing the results. In this case, it was the first time on a Mainline whereas recently it was a Dynocom, so it was interesting to see how the different loading mechanisms/logic reflected the power of the car. Understanding that at this level with OE parts, belts, etc. at their limits, we really shouldn’t beat on the car if it isn’t leading toward end goals, it was the best option to simulate transmission issues without scheduling a rental, and it provides some consistency to variables.

So, they loaded the dyno for a 7 second pass and ran it through the gears, starting in second like we do on the drag strip (thus the reason for a crazy TQ number). I believe they threw a bag of ice in but didn’t circulate it heavily or top it off because MAT was 112* for the run, which is a little high for the car, and the belt had a few passes so we lost all boost in 6th gear. In any case, I was happy with the result. At least in terms of 60-130 to weight, we have proven the car is making at least 1400 RWHP, but still need to show that in 1/4 mile trap. Now that we at least found the root cause of transmission issues and are trying a fix, we should be leading that way.

Damn, how high are you spinning that thing? From the rest of us aspiring to get there some day, we enjoy seeing those kinds of numbers as well! I know you're solid roller but can you give some info on block, rotating assembly and heads?

What transmission issues were you having Jason?

Damn that has to be a 2650 record for power?

It’ll go as high as 7800 depending on the gear. It is a Noonan billet 427ci LT solid roller with T&D billet rockers, Jesel lifters, Manly pushrods, Dyers rods/bolts, Diamond 2k HP pistons, roller cam bearings… I would need to pull out the build sheet for the finer details. It has a Magnum crank, but my understanding is that its actually lighter than billet, so in hindsight that was a good choice being a blower car. It has CID heads ported by LME.

Rough and late shifts. It did perfect on the dyno, even when cranking up the load to a low 7 second pass, so based on Dragy and line pressure data, and that its only happening on the track, we are leaning toward the pump getting starved due to g force. So, they made some modifications to hopefully address that. If it does, Pure will need to come up with a more permanent solution like a new pan, maybe new oil pickup, etc. The fluid was crystal clear so they just put it back in.

Dyno power, 60-130, 100-150, 1/4 mile trap speed, and tied with a C7 on ET, but that won’t be an issue to pass once the trans stuff is sorted.

JEEZEZ. Do I remember you saying, some time ago, that there were some more (blower?...) tricks you had? If so, did you do those tricks? That power's like another 100 above a race-case 2650 that I saw on LMP's video. Good Lord!

We have 1-2 more tricks to try, but at the moment we have too much power for the transmission. Not the trans build, but the OEM pump/valve body architecture. I might end up pulling a little out to get a 7 second pass while they work on that. We weren’t going for a max dyno number here, but I think if it had a fresh belt it would have made over 1500. It was also down 1 psi overall from what it has made at the track from it being so hot.

I wonder if a little extra fluid in the pan would help prevent the filter pickup from getting starved at launch? I know you can’t go crazy in that regard but that fluid must be flying to the back of the pan once you’re underway…!

The issue is actually between 3 and 6 seconds into the run. It seems that once the pump sucks up what’s in the pan and the inertia stays consistent, the pressure starts to drop. It was no issue when the car was running 3.2 60-130’s, but once it dropped into the 2’s it started behaving like this. It is already overfilled with a catch can since it’ll spit out anything over a quart extra, but next time out we’ll check it after the first pass and add more of if needed.

Unreal… 7 second problems lol…! Your previous comment about a different transmission pan made end up being the answer. Something 1/2”-3/4” deeper might help.

That’ll help some but the filter pickup location isn’t ideal either for this type of use. There is always the next challenge to overcome.

I still get a little excited each time I go out for my daily drive... I'll sell it if and when that ends.

I don't have near the power of many of you guys in this thread, but I tell you it's enough for me. Every time I go for a drive, it's the biggest treat for me. People comment about not driving it enough, or whatever their deal is, but even sitting in the car's a treat. I made it exactly what I wanted to right now, and everything else I do is just a little icing on the cake for me. I like using it the way I wanted to, and it's my dream car so I enjoy every moment I do anything with it, even when it's days/weeks apart. I love driving it.
