2010-2013 5th gen radio replace
Hi,
If I were to get an older 5th gen (2010-2013), can I replace the radio with a modern unit with CarPlay / Android Auto? If yes, can you suggest me some unit models? Thank you! |

No, there is nothing compatible between the 5th and 6th gen Camaros. The 5th gen was on the GM Zeta platform derived from the old Australian Holden Commodore and Pontiac G8.
The 6th gen is on Alpha which is shared with the current Cadillac CTS and ATS. It's a completely different beast. The 5th gen stereo was the last General Motors product with the standard head unit assembly with the tuner, CD player, and all components built in with the display screen and inserted into the dash as a large assembly. The 6th gen "head unit" is like all modern cars, just a touchscreen display mounted to the dash board. There is nothing behind the display but a wire harness. The tuner, GPS navi, XM receiver, and amplifier are in all different locations spread around the car and integrated through the ECM module. There is zero compatibility between the two. |

But can I find an aftermarket unit that I can fit in the spot? I'm not asking for 5/6 gen compatibility, just to replace the stereo with something else.
Thanks! |

Oh sure, that's actually easier than replacing the 6th gen stereo lol! You can basically get anything you want since I think it's DIN 1/2 or double DIN size, and then you would need to get the proper harness converters and mounting kit/trim but yes, you can pretty much install almost any aftermarket head unit in that car. Stick with anything Pioneer or Alpine. They make the best car-fi products. https://alpine-usa.com/product/categ...ts-head-units/ https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/AppRadio |

Nice to know, thank you! I'm wondering if someone here replaced his. I have trust issues with this kind of kits: https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...vy-Camaro.html so I need some hints on what to get.

Go through Crutchfield. You can absolutely trust them. You tell them your exact car, trim level, and factory stereo package, tell them the model aftermarket head unit you're interested in, and they will give you the correct mounting kit, trim, and harness adapter parts to buy to complete the installation properly.
They've been around since the 1970s. My stepbrother is about 15 years older than me and he was the first person I knew with a killer aftermarket car stereo in the late 80s. He's been getting Crutchfield's magazine since then. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-DexnMLgHXA8/ |

I need to replace my radio on my 2013 LS. All the sites that sell radios state that dealer programming is needed. Anyone know about this process and if an owner can do it themselves?
