Thermostat housing protection.

In the past, we've heard from numerous customers that have shattered their LT1/LT4 Thermostat housings in the event of a snapped Serpentine/Supercharger belt.

We have also heard about cooling problems when moving to billet housings.

This seems to be the best option and best of both, Great cooling and protection from a broken belt.

Nice looking piece. Very similar to the TRLAtomotive LT4/LT5 thermostat housing cover that have on my ZL1.

I haven't heard of cooling system problems when switching out to a billet housing but admittedly this may vary in build difference between all of the manufacturers. My DMS stat housing and LS3 stat have been working in perfect harmony since I installed it all last year. I've been riding around giving her hell in 100+ degree heat too.

Nice to see there is another offering in this. Options are always a good thing.

Yes it is TRL who makes them for us with our logo.

We also have the new Fast fill racing jug spouts.

I am certainly not here to start any drama or call out any specific brands in fact I have no first hand Experience/data one way or another.

I Agree that it is not all cases or specific product, but a reliable source has brought this to our attention and have the technical data to back it up, again with no names.

This shows up in Road coarse action rather than street/drag action.

Ah, understood. That's a weird issue if it only shows up during autox, but it does make sense because it is an endurance type of racing where the engine sees high RPMs for extended periods of time.

Ah, so some of the designs are enough endurance for autox but not actual road courses. Gotcha. Appreciate the explanation. Thanks for all the assistance during my build BTW, you guys were top notch and a year later all is well and running like a top!

I've seen a destroyed ZL1 thermostat housing at the drag strip after the belt snapped, so I wouldn't any racing in general. Wear protection!

So is it the aftermarket LS3 thermostats used in the billet housing or the billet housing itself that causes issues? I just had to replace the LS3 type 160 stat that came with the housing due to overheating during street driving and idling. I had previously tracked the car on road courses for a few weekends. I don’t know the brand it came with but I replaced it with the Lingenfelter thermostat and it’s working fine now.

I am sorry, Like I said I have no first hand experience with this Just a reliable source.

I don't have any specifics so I will just stick with OEM housings and LPE or OEM thermostats with our housing guards.

You have a photo of the defective t stat that you changed out? Could've been a Motorad. Actually, it's highly likely it was given the fact you said it was a 160. Those are known to be problematic, and running a lower temp thermostat does not guarantee you will stay around that designated temp. It just means it will open up sooner. If you are tracking it or road coursing it, you will likely see your temps climb up to what they will be at regardless of when the t-stat opens. I would have tossed in a genuine LS3 GM/ AC Delco 187* stat and continued monitoring temps. More specifically on the road course.

Depending where you live, run water wetter or engine ice as well. Especially if you never see below freezing. Also considering the fact that you race the car.
