Arguing about this in 2024 is pure stupidity or at its best entertainment.

Nobody cares except the victim. The only way to survive in this dystopia is to steal everything that isn't bolted down. Victims are just sales opportunities. Everyone who mentions Camaro thefts are automatically told to buy a Mustang. I am sure if you asked GM execs, they'd just recommend a Corvette.

Incur a corporate loss by a recall? Don't be silly. GM is more concerned about legal fees than any customer satisfaction. If the fix was totally free, they'd fight it.

At this point, I think the only useful cost effective thing if you're in this situation is a hidden cut off switch and active tracking or similar.

I'll pitch this again since it started in the obscure DIY section:

For less than $100 and a solid afternoon's worth of effort, you can protect your car from theft.

I will never go to jail over a car that I can replace THAT DAY.
******GARAGE MOD******
It shows how priorities are screwed up or how naive people are not to get a place to live with stand your ground/castle laws. I never understood the mentality of the house, garage, and base model LT1 before living in a state with more personal freedom.

see how stupid that sounds?

I do live in a stand your ground/castle law state. I’m just not going OUTSIDE for a gun battle over a car.
FYI I do have a base LT1 car- as my beater toy also here is my 2023 Hellcat and my 1971 Mach 1.
If you want to do trucks, Harleys, and SUV’s I can play that too.

I’ve never understood the car before the house/garage mentality but there are so many thing I don’t understand today.

If you can’t afford a second vehicle, a place with a garage, or secure storage- you can’t afford said cars.

I hope it has the tailgate heater mod to keep your hands warm while pushing it.

Awfully judgey sir. I own a house in a great, pretty expensive neighborhood.....but guess what? It only has a one car driveway, and the original owner had the house spec'd and built WITHOUT a garage. The slab was framed in and is now the wife's office. My Camaro sits on the street.....wife's toy gets the driveway. It is what it is. Doesn't absolve GM of leaving a massive security hole with these cars however. I've closed the hole with mine, and having a manual and living on a hill the chances of a run-of-the-mill thief snagging my car in front of the house are remote at best.

Hopefully one day, enough of these thieves will get shot dead or we start dealing out the death penalty for vehicle theft and other rampant crimes.
