If you’re able to do the work yourself, definitely. That’s not a hard install IMO.

Maybe a N/A build would be better for me? I would do that for sure if its safer.

You could also find a used low mileage ported stock LT4 blower(<3000), LT4 fuel system, jms booster, keep boost around 7psi. Shouldn't have a problem getting all this for under 10k. . The car will have a much fatter power curve with the LT4 blower. That should put you in the 580-600whp range. As long as you have no plans for more power, the fuel system will be adequate. If you do 38% lobe cam, then you can get close to another 100whp out of the fuel system. But you might as well do rods/pistons if going that far. Many shops pull the engine for a cam install anyway.

Is race fuel an option in lieu of E ? I have no issue with the idea of using E, and feel I understand its benefits, it's just an availability issue that I feel would turn into a real hassle.
What octane would be safe to run with 7psi on a hot Summer day ? I always put 94 in my stock SS, but there are numerous shops around where I could purchase various levels of race fuel. Would mixing 94 with race fuel to net say, 100 octane , provide enough knock/detonation protection and still allow for max timing for optimum power ? |

Ethanol has other beneficial cooling characteristics compared to gasoline so it isnt just about the octane. Its also more forgiving of over-rich conditions too (or so ive heard).

The main benefit of Ethanol is it's ability to pull heat out of the cylinder on combustion. This is why Ethanol loves compression and why it doesn't gain nearly as much power on the older LS stuff.
When you are putting boost to a engine that has some of the tightest ring gaps to ever roll out of GM's assembly plants, you want to keep cylinder temps in check so the rings don't butt and break a piston. The next issue is the variance in ring gaps on the LT1. I have seen some reports of some engines being as tight as .07. If yours happens to be this tight then you might be SOL. I have also seen reports of compression being as high as 12:1 and not the advertised 11.5:1. Most LT1's are around 10-12 thou on ring gap. For reference the LS3 was 15 to 19...so much more boost friendly. The tuning window is very narrow on the LT1. Another important issue often over looked is blow by and crank case pressure. Get a vented catch can!! Oil blow by will cause detonation and break pistons. You will also want the LS3 timing cover seal.

Long tube headers high flow catted 3 inch X pipe back to stock muffler. Flex fuel sensor, and LT4 fuel system Then you can think about supercharging, and there are many options. We prefer the top mount supercharger for there simplicity, fit, finish and performance. You can safely run up to 6psi on 91 8 psi on 93, , 10 on E-85 with no internal engine modifications and proper tuning. Roughly 550 RWHP, 600 RWHP 650 RWHP respectively. A cam upgrade can add up to 100 RWHP to these numbers. The over the counter tuning that comes with the supercharger won't be usable at all. We sell complete packages with everything needed including custom tuning equipment and calibration. Feel free to call we are always available to take a call to talk through your budget and goals. Ted.

I was then going to look at an Edelbrock complete supercharger kit for my engine, top mounted so again you seemed to have read my mind lol. I was also looking at forged internals and a cam so I'm glad to know I was on the right track! But I will keep this saved for reference and might take you guys up on that call and advice as I progress! Much appreciated for all the advice and direction! |

Hello Ted, Do you offer a ProCharger package ? Something ~600whp on 94, maybe 650whp on 94 with a bit of race fuel added in ? Thanks, Joe |

If I was to do it all over again to get in that 600-650whp range I would do the LT4 highside, JMS BAP, headers and a P1X Procharger. That should get you where you want to be and keep you from over doing it.
