New brake pads (XP20). Question
Just received some Carbotech XP20 pads, just waiting still on the Girodisc rotors to install. I noticed that most people stagger the front and rear pads, running less aggressive pads in the rear (example XP20 front XP18 or 16 rear) Previously I ran Ferodo 1.11 front and rear (street and track on stock rotors) and did not experience rear lock up. I consider the XP20's to be a bit more aggressive. Do you (the all powerful internet) think it will be an issue? I do plan to swap pads back and forth between street and track. Should I consider swapping rotors back to stock for street as well? I average 2500 miles on the street a year. Car is 2018 zl1 1le making a bit over 700whp @ 3660lbs prior to the Apex 18's, slicks, and rotors.

I dont get why people stagger personally. I use HAWK 60's now on all 4's and it's great for me. I've also used carbotech xp 12's all around in the past with no issues. I don't drive my car on the street much anymore but when I do I leave the track pads on and I don't have any issues with noise.
There is already a natural stagger in braking potential due to the size of the rotors and pads from front to rear. |

I run Gloc R16/R12 on my ATS-V...I stagger pads because both Danny Puskar and Terry Fair recommended it.
<shrug> The XP20 is basically the same as the R16. I use GS1s for the street, then slap the R16/R12 prior to a track day as the compounds are compatable (same with 1521s and XPs). I've driven to/from NCM a few times on the R16/R12, they stop just fine cold and the fronts don't squeal.

Yeah there heat range is 275-2000, so probably could be used on street. will just make alot of dust and noise.
I figured smaller caliper = less clamping force, so would be fine with an equally aggressive pad. I want the rear to grab more to assist the front, but with the large weight transfer when braking I see how it could cause rear lock ups etc.. |

I have R16 front and rear and couldn't be happier with it. I stuck with same compound because I was coming from 1.11s like yourself. I don't see the point in staggering pad compounds. I also haven't had any ABS/TCS/ice mode issues.
