Disowning a family member for buying a Mustang, I can get behind that.

And no, I couldn't and wouldn't buy a Corolla. I'm retired GM as were most of my family members. My mother and father met at a Fisher Body plant that had been converted over to make the Grumman Avenger fighter. And the relatives that didn't work there, worked across the street at the Naval Propulsion Plant where the built the engines.

Heck, my father disowned my sister for buying a Ford Mustang when she worked at GM. Back then, Ford and Chrysler were considered foreign by our family. LoL
So, you're whining about the cost of a CAI but then go on to trash anyone who buys a "foreign" car, be it for want, or price. Uh...ok?

The Toyota Corolla is made in Blue Springs, MS. 10 other Toyota models are made in the US.

Can't say that about GM, which is importing from China and South Korea now. But hey, you're buying a "domestic" brand, right?

I said where the "profits go", or did you drink the Toyota Kool-Aid? I did not say where the car or parts are made.

The big money that they make goes overseas. Saturn tried to sell their cars in Japan and the people rejected it because it was foreign.

If I was a parts supplier, I'd be selling parts for the Camaro at a bare minimum just to clear out most of my inventory and recoup some of my expenses.

Ok, I'm done, I'll get off of my high horse.

Sorry OP, people here prefer to bash opinions and feelings over comfort and support, or simply a positive debate. I feel your pain. Shits way overpriced and sellers are reaping our tears.

In the case of Toyota's profits, that would be Toyota Motors North America headquartered in Plano, TX.

A CAI may cost a chunk of change but there's a good chance a custom deal is actually made here in the US by an American business owner, and that just costs money. I'm sure cheaper ones can be found on eBay.

50% go to China. China owns 50% of GM in China.

It’s 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

All profits for American Honda and Toyota of North America go back to their world headquarters in Japan.

All profits for GM of China go back to Detroit.

Conversely there are many Hondas and Toyotas with significantly more American labor hours in their assembly than many GM vehicles.

Just have to look at the production stickers of American cars to see if they’re majority American made.

There are many Hondas and Toyotas with significant American labor hours in them.

At the risk of continuing the off-topic conversation on the intricacies of GM/non-GM loyalty and purchase decision making ........Since Corolla was indirectly brought up along with the evils of buying a non-GM vehicle, here's some direct reasons why after being a lifelong GM advocate and buyer, I bought an appliance Toyota Corolla Hybrid AWD to replace our white like most appliances 2002 Saturn SL2:

-GM doesn't come close to offering a similar vehicle in the segment. Whether it be offering the size segment, AWD availability within this segment, price of particular options and stated and real world fuel economy.
-Our 2012 Traverse was a shit show early on in our ownership. My confidence in getting 150k out of it without a major failure is not high.
-Our 2016 Cruze (1st Gen) has been another low quality purchase. Every damn time I open the hood I find something else that is or will be a problem. So much for GM proclaiming that car was going to be their best shot at Honda and Toyota's small car dominance. And history also proved they failed because they pretty much threw in the towel in the segment after the 2nd Gen Cruze.
-And speaking of the 2nd Gen Cruze, my son's 2018 Cruze has stop/start. And I already replaced the OE starter. You'd think that GM would have engineered a more robust starter for the massively increased duty cycle that stop/start puts upon that important component. One shouldn't have to replace a starter in the 2000's.
-If GM engineered every vehicle platform like they did for the Alpha platform they would have quite the impressive portfolio.
-After spending time both driving and maintaining my son's '22 Ohio built Civic, I will say there are small things that I have noticed that moves the needle to Asian engineering. I do all my own maintenance so I become very familiar with each vehicle's tendencies and quirks.
-While my particular Corolla was made in Japan, GM's increasing China content in their vehicles does not make for good points for someone's "Made in USA" argument.
-This is not a political statement: GM's pandering to the EV zealots. Yeah, admittingly this one is a stretch. But the majority of consumers are not biting onto the EV "revolution". Killing the Gen6 Z/28 and an ICE Gen7 Camaro cut me deep so this one is more of a subjective response rather than objective. Sure, I see some of the positive EV tendencies in my hybrid Corolla when it comes to driving smoothness and minimal NHV, but I'm not beholden to any range anxiety of a full EV, among other negative EV traits. Now GM recently responded to the questions of why go so hard on EV, with new talk about more hybrids!!Toyota faced backlash on their resistance to going full tilt on EVs, saying hybrids are the best way.
-Toyota Kool-Aid, lol. Same as GM Kool-Aid. Just a different flavor. One brand gained market share over the past 40+ years....the other lost during that same time period. Which Kool-Aid flavor is drugged?

But, back on topic.
If something's overpriced, then don't buy it. But, you can never get large groups of people to not buy the overpriced stuff. People still have enough money for discretionary non-essential spending.
