It seems to me both a theft deterrent and a GPS device is needed. Theft deterrent does not do much good if the car is towed away. Is there a device that does both?

Gps is a good idea as an added measure for sure. There are stand alone systems or you can use an apple air tag. If you use the air tag, be sure to remove the speaker out of it. This way the thief can not ping the air tag for a sound to try and find it's location. They will still know it is in the vehicle but won't be able to find it easily. There are YouTube videos on how to remove the speaker.

I would be curious to know the stats on the stolen Camaro's, how many were single owners vs not. I guess I'm wondering if the car is bought used is there a higher risk for it to be stolen. This is because years and years ago, I read about an exotic car rental company in Vegas (I'll not name). They were under investigation and then later charged by police for stealing the exotics they sold as used cars as they replaced their livery. Not sure if this is something also that could be going on with the Camaro thefts.

It is happening more and more... Spoke to a CHP officer 2 weeks ago, and he said although Hellcats are easier to steal, he said he himself could steal my car in less than 2 minutes ;(
A buddy of mine, just had his car stolen this week... 800rwhp with Whipple. No theft protect, no LoJack or Airtag :( She is long gone...

I'm sorry to hear about this. Makes me sick every time. Manuals can be stolen just as easy as the automatics. As much fun as it is to joke about people not being able to drive a manual, in reality it will not stop them from taking it. I think most of the people here kinda have it figured out by now. Multiple layers including visual and non-visual, along with tracking of some sort. Even the garage queens should be protected because you never know who is around when you take it out. Next will be polycarbonate windows to make it harder to break into. Now that I say that, it is probably not a bad idea. Just need to be careful of scratching the material.

Mine was stolen last Thursday. Wish I wasn’t so naive to think it wouldn’t happen to me.

That truly sucks. I'm sorry to hear this. I'm going to assume you are is some part of So Cal? That seams to be the hot spot in CA for these getting stolen. Maybe other areas are just not posted as much. It can happen anywhere. |

I ordered my IGLA today. The service person told me the last two IGLA systems they had in stock had deposits. She told me last time they tried to order more from the distributor a couple weeks ago that they were back ordered. She told me these were "Flying off the Shelf." She told me she would check again with the distributor and call other installers. Did not sound good.
She called me back and said the distributor would give them one out of their reserve stock. So I should be covered. I am not sure I believe her on the "Flying off the Shelves." But I called her, and told he what I wanted. She was not trying to "sell me" anything. I know this is a common sales strategy, but I do not think it applies here. I called last week for pricing and I made up my mind last week but did not call until today to order. I may be wrong, or it my be my region/distributor. My point is, if you want one, order it. If you are on the fence, get off the fence. I am not trying to push IGLA, I have no skin in the game. It is just this stolen ZL1 situation is bad and seems to be getting worse (IMHO). Makes me sick and I would hate for someone who wants one be put on backorder for not moving now. Last edited by DansZL1-1LE; 06-03-2024 at 08:48 PM. Reason: clarify |

Our cars are targeted by thieves.
I currently have a brake pedal lock and Faraday key pouches. Going to add a Mobilistic relay. My car is tucked away in the garage at night. I could do better with an IGLA system and trackers I guess. We live in crazy times. Tyrolblue67 Last edited by Tyrolblue67; 06-04-2024 at 09:09 AM. |
