2022 Camaro SS 1LE - traffic ticket for inadequate / no muffler

During memorial day weekend, I managed to get two tickets with my 2022 Camaro SS 1LE.

Inadequate / No muffler
Failure to stop at a stop sign

The car is all factory except for the Corsa NPP axle back, which increases the noise ever so slightly. The officer stated that the car was popping / banging and that is not factory. I told him it was factory tune, and there was no way to get rid of that pop/bang without voiding the warranty, but he didn't care and wrote me the ticket regardless. Any chance of getting out of this ticket? Or do I need to remove my Corsa NPP, install the factory NPP and show them proof?

Instead of fighting the Customer Service department of the legal system, just hire a lawyer to make it go away.

But it would be a good idea to actually stop at stop signs...

Agree, hire a lawyer to make it go away.

90%+ of these tickets are strictly for revenue generation, period. Nothing at all to do with "safety" as these agencies claim. But I'm glad to know crime is so low in Long Island that cops can waste their time on ridiculous tickets like this.

The Corsa NPP is not factory.

This is why i keep exhaust in "auto" mode, easily can switch to NPP quiet mode in "tour" if they start talking crap. I guarantee you if you had factory NPP catback you would have still got the ticket. The cops working holidays are the worst sargent d1cks. Same crap in CA...

This, Been on this Island 58+years, modified is the answer. It is not factory, where were you at?

I was around, all over most of the weekend, when it wasn't wet, lol. Passed and drove with/around plenty of SCPD, not an issue from any of them, I run track mode exhaust 100% of the time, bone stock. BTW, 4 years and counting, I live in central suffolk, never one issue in my car with police.

The stop sign was the catalyst.... just gave him a reason. Pretty sure I would have had a similar experience if I rolled a stop sign, bad timing. Sorry for your luck!

Hire a lawyer ? Is anyone kidding here ? A NY lawyer will cost you
$400-600 an hour. If you've never needed a lawyer- first count your blessings and second keep this in mind: They charge for every minute you speak to them. Consultation, preparation and court time might add up to an eye watering amount. Take some advice from an old guy: Unless you have a "Cousin Vinny", pay the ticket and then consider replacing the mufflers with the stock ones.

Even with the stock muffler, he would have gotten the ticket if the cop said the reason was the pops and bangs. On my all stock '21 LT1 the pops and bangs were decently noticeable when in sport mode and louder in track.

OP, cop was being a dick and looking to get revenue. He could have easily looked under the car and seen the muffler. It was an easy add on citation for rolling the stop sign.

If I'm stopped, I can prove my car has factory exhaust. Either on the spot or bringing the evidence at court. This is a risk you take when you modify the car, especially with something like exhaust. If you like to bring attention to yourself through other actions that are contrary to the law, you make it worse and will probably get written up for the infractions that are obvious.

It's not going to pop/bang much if you are using the brakes to slow down. If you do downshifts to high RPMs with a lot of engine braking, like going to 3K or above and then letting that slow down the car, it's going to do it much more. I'd assume this is an auto though, because most things are? I don't know how those react in the same situation.

It's not like that. There are lawyers who will take on a ticket for a set fee ($600 for example). Their track record at getting tickets dismissed or thrown out is pretty good, and it really helps if getting tickets is an infrequent occasion for you. But you are taking a gamble.

Their fee can be advantageous compared to increased insurance premiums and/or points on your license.

They won't bother arresting car thieves knowing that their DA will just turn them loose again. So they figure they'd go where the money is at, writing senseless tickets.
