I have to be honest in that a lot of the time, it's difficult to understand what some of these guys are saying, because they're talking tuner-talk, and I'm not a tuner. In case this might be helpful to anyone (trying to do this by memory - sorry - no laptop with me):

Disabling the codes is easy. Just unselect the check under "SES Enable" and change the column to the right (I forget the label) to "No MIL Reported". That P27A-code is a new one to me. That one was not sent to me as something to change. I don't know if that's a model-year specific-type-thing, or a new discovery by HHP.

Connection to the internet is necessary because, for reasons I don't understand, that's how to access the TCM. One of the things I don't like is you can't read the TCM from the car, as it stands. You can write to the TCM, but again - your laptop has to be connected to the internet. The connection to HPTuners is automatic though, so that's nice. It says read, but it's not readable like the ECM/CCM. At any rate - you can write all you want, which is what matters to me.

As far as verifying it's the correct file - I saved an OEM file of the TCM-tune, and it seems to compare directly with what comes from HPTuners' server. So - that's good. Those are easy things to check/compare.

Basically - what made sense to me was reading the OEM tune (from the T93) before swapping to the HHP TCM. Then - after I connected to HPTuners the first time, I saved that file, and compared to the OEM file (from the T93). For me - there were no differences in the tune comparison, so all was good. I then started making adjustments from there.

Hopefully that was helpful.

I wonder if they’ll ever get it less finicky with these new TCMs. Seems like such a pain. I’m used to just reading the tcm, seeing the tables and values, making modifications, then uploading.

Yup. That's what I've tried to learn to do, and not overthink it, which is something I do, too. I'm sure it's not going to get easier. This isn't bad though. It's just trying to understand, precisely, what they mean.

I was told today that I have to reinstall the stock TCM and grab some data to eliminate my T87a DTCs. I'll know more in a few weeks

For those that made this swap to the T87A from HHP, was the car able to be driven immediately after the swap or was a base TCM tune file needed first? I realize the T93 can be unlocked and tuned now but I bought a HHP T87A TCM a year and half ago and never got around to installing it until today. Didn't make sense for me to unlock my T93 since I already spent money on this unlocked T87A. I'm waiting to hear back from my tuner on what steps I need to do next. I was just curious if the car could or should be driven immediately after installation.

HHP Invoice Note:

Tuner must disable P2544 in ECM
Tuner must be connected to internet while reading/writing TCM
Tuner must verify generated TCM tune file is correct for the application (AKA, SS, ZL1, rear end ratio, etc).
*The automatically generated tune file is not vehicle specific*

I had to reinstall the stock TCM and grab some data to eliminate my T87a DTCs.

Thanks, that's actually more helpful than HHP was when I asked them about the swap. I certainly hope I don't have to reinstall my stock TCM for any reason.

I did not try to drive the car but I did have to move it out one garage into another, no service engine lights came on and it seemed to shift just fine just moving it short distances. Still waiting on the tuner though before I proceed with anything.

I had to re-orient the plug correctly, as I believe the T87 connection flips 180* compared to the T93, connected to the interwebs, verified the file (compared to the OEM file, and it was fine), adjusted the DTC and no problem. I had the plug wrong the first attempt (because it plugged right in and didn't fight me in any way) and got a SHIFT error. There was no problem otherwise though. I jumped in the car, kept the brake pedal down, and manually shifted as much as it would allow and all was good. I was able to drive it right away.

Yea, I thought it was odd the connector was flipped 180 degrees. I still haven't driven it yet until I hear from my tuner. No DTC that I'm aware of yet but its probably that I didn't actually drive it yet.

I'm sure it'll be fine. There's not much that can go wrong, except turning rubber to smoke.

I was also surprised how much larger the T87A TCM is compared to the T93. tuner just told me to give him a file of the ECM and TCM so they can get started on it tomorrow.
