The $10k EVs that everyone talks about are A segment and B-segment vehicles for the domestic Chinese market only. You can’t even buy an A-Segment car in the US anymore. If you could it would be something akin to the Smart car. A B-segment would be something like the Chevrolet Sonic.

Fact is, things are a little craftier than just BYD hoping to dump cheap cars here.
GM already sells vehicles in the US which were built in China. And I hate them for it, it's absolute betrayal. Ford is following suit. Lincoln Nautilus? Hot off the container ship. Volvo, after its partnership with Geely in the Polestar venture, will now manufacture its own EV's in China and import them to the US. Cheap EV's already have an inroad. Were it not for tax incentives to source and manufacture in North America (Thank you, Biden), you know GM would be leveraging its Chinese EV manufacturing--which is already in place--to bring us cheap EV's....would they not? |

The more-nuanced-than-evident piece is GM could theoretically import 5 cheap EV's from China for one Z06 exported, in theory, yes? This is the inroad I'm talking about even with existing tariffs. |

Even if GM did make a “5 cheap EVs for 1 Z06” deal you’re still talking not enough numbers to cause a ripple in the pond. And such a deal would be very unlikely. It’s an if stacked on top of an if, wrapped around a maybe.

The other obvious inroad is setting up shop in Mexico and suddenly every Chinese EV's VIN now begins with 3 instead of L. |

That is something I have my team studying intently. So far the Chinese OEMs are content with importing into Mexico. Not saying it can’t or won’t happen, but at present, not a lot in motion.

And stock price jumps $27. Go figure. Makes no sense at all.

Tesla's stock never made sense to begin with anyway......
Depending how this shakes out...... Even though I never needed a supercharger yet, may dictate what replaces my Model 3 down the road. Got years before I envision needing to replace the Model 3 so have time to see what happens. But the discussion changes further. It was a matter of replacing it with another Tesla or another OEM EV. It brings ICE back into discussion. This also puts NACS in jeopardy. Musk needs to step down as CEO, IMHO. Get a Gwynne Shotwell to run Tesla. Gwynne been doing an awesome job running SpaceX as CEO leaving Musk deal with what he is actually good at, the product and hardware. He can't operate and run a company. |

Stock holder Voting is going on.
Just like our local votes wording obfuscates the truth of the matter. Should a person get 54 bazillion dollars for pissing away billions of company money on things not making a good return instead of focusing on the Tesla car product? Related to that topic will gas stations and store landlords pay for the superchargers now so it was smart decision because of a low Return On Investment or some crazyassedwhilehigh decision? I don't see anything all over the news on details of profit vs investments on those except the government huge dollar subsidies have built exactly ONE location. Oh I might add I would like to see a new CEO focused on the cars only, there was no vote option for that BTW In other electric news Acura is making a new electric hearse looking crossover so it can take itself out for burial after the model is so unpopular? This ranks up there in weirdness like the time GM borrowed Honda's 3.5L V6, or when a GM truck was sold as a Saab, or when Toyota borrowed the Cavalier. |
