GPS/Onstar
So my salesman didn't know the answer to this so I was wondering if someone here could help to answer - do I need to subscribe to Onstar in order for my GPS to keep working on my 23 2ss?

make sure you're not enrolled in smart driver
I signed an OnStar opt out before delivery. My factory nav worked and have zero lights on the OnStar buttons so it appears GPS is functioning without OnStar. needless to say, I pulled the fuse for OnStar. I get no nav, no OnStar, and no GPS. I can live with that |

No. My in-car navi GPS still works on my 2017 over five years after the original onstar trial expired. Real-time data services (weather, traffic) and in-car WIFI do not. But that's what Waze and Android Auto is for.

In the engine compartment fuse box (front passenger side) there is a fuse called F20 which list listed as OnStar/Nav - 10A. Does that do it? Well I’m going to give it a try.

Okay took the Camaro out for a spin with the F20 fuse pulled. For me that took care of the OnStar. & smartdriver.

I pulled the fuse on my '23 and the OnStar went off the air but I noticed the Wifi still worked. The Wifi still would try to logon to my home network sitting in the garage when I told it to and it could determine the strength of my home network as well as my neighbours signal. That says at least one radio transmitter is still working. Makes me a little suspicious that the car could still phone home thru a LTE cell connection and transfer the driving data to GM. If it still has a working radio transmitter for Wifi maybe the cell communications runs thru that module as well. Be nice if we had someone from GM here who could comment on that.

And I am not convinced pulling the SpyStar fuse disables anything. It has been proven that even if your cell phone is OFF, it can still be used to spy on you. Same thing is likely with SpyStar. Best thing to do is remove the radio board from the module. It is the only way to be sure. I removed mine and the fuse. And yet my car still has power to the SpyStar lights on my mirror. |

You have to physically unplug and remove the satellite receiver/transmitter board (transceiver) in order to actually stop and cut all OnStar communications. I keep meaning to do it but it’s a pain in the kazoo for me to crawl under my dash, remove the bottom cover panel, and remove the board.
Anyone want to make a quick $100 bucks and come to my house to pull my OnStar board for me?

If the car has factory navigation, accessible by an icon in the infotainment display that has maps and directional services, then no, you do not need to subscribe to Onstar to continue using the factory navigation. If by "GPS" you mean turn-by-turn directions that you get by plugging in an address to the My Chevrolet/ OnStar App, using the OnStar app on your infotainment, or pressing the blue button and asking for directions to be sent, then yes, you need to subscribe to Onstar. Or, what do you mean by "GPS"? |

Since OnStar seems to be so unpopular on this forum, it's too bad that it couldn't have been deleted when the car was initially built.
I wonder how much we all had to pay for such an unpopular addition. |

I cancelled my subscription to On Star because the price they want for what you get is absolutely outrageous.
