As soon as the weather gets nice I’m taking my OnStar transceiver out.
The thing that gets me is that, in the year 2024 EVERONE has a smartphone. All you need is CarPlay/Android auto and you literally have everything you get from OnStar except theft tracking and satellite remote door locks. Think about that for a minute folks….. they can unlock our doors via satellite. Holy crap!!

Fair enough, although there comes a point when you just have to trust others, you can't carry and sustain the entire world on your shoulders. Then again, GM and OnStar or maybe even LexisNexis aren't the ones to start that with...

Agreed, and that’s why pulling the hardware makes the most sense. Especially since it appears to be easily reversible. If your privacy means something to you, you just have to take action. These companies are fat and bloated with our data because we just go along with it. And I’m as guilty as anyone. Have owned the car for 6+ years and I’m just getting around to doing this now.

I don't have a Camaro, but am driving a Bolt EUV as a commuter car.
After reading this thread, I wanted to find out if Smart Driver is enabled, so I contacted OnStar. They said you would need to have an active subscription. Well, I didn't renew anything after the free trial period expired. So apparently, Smart Driver is not available to me. Yay! https://imgur.com/T6ApGQI |
