Count me as another one who bought one due to it going out of production. In my case however it was because V8 manual RWD coupes are going out of production with only the Mustang left and I preferred the gen6 camaro to the gen7 mustang. If this wasn’t the case I probably would have held out and bought a used zl1 or would have went completely different and bought a Supra as I already had a Gen 6 SS before my current Gen 6 SS 1le. I would have loved to try something different and then come back to the platform but I believe it will be harder and harder to find clean Gen 6 examples in the future with 2024 being the final year.

Glad I got mine. What an incredible machine and the bargain of performance per $ cant be beat.

Wow, guess a lot of people buying it because of a similar reason..
*ahem* I bought mine because I found out the Camaro was going out of production. The pending doom of V8 cars was part of that as well. I'd always wanted a nice new car, and it seemed like my time was up. I'm a Chevy (formerly Pontiac) guy, so the obvious choice to me was the Camaro (not to mention I think they're just straight up a nicer car). When I found out I could afford the trim I really wanted, well, twist my rubber arm. I had a 4th Gen Firebird before this and I gotta say, felt so fitting to upgrade my LT1 to a brand new LT1 |

There is quite a bit due to this……. Quote:
Have to keep in mind Camaro STILL came in 3rd. What’s really surprising is new Mustang didn’t get a bump, which sadly shows GM it was probably smart to not invest in the segment.

it was really surprising to me to see the mustang sales are way down the last two years. if you combined the camaro and mustang sales with the big fat challenger you'd have barely enough sales for 2 cars.

I think base models of the 3 cars you listed start at over 30k before options which I find absolutely ludicrous.

price doesn't seem to hurt truck and suv sales, which are way overpriced

Also, how could the Camaro that hasn't received any significant investment in 5 years be unprofitable in its 9th model year, initial investment and design overhead long recovered, especially after hefty price increases across the board? I bet GM makes a super nice profit even on a $32K entry level Camaro, a very hefty one on $50-60K V8 units, and a mind-boggling killing on a $80-90K ZL1. The only argument that could be made is that production capacity was needed for even more profitable vehicles with higher sales volumes, which are the trucks and SUVs, neither of them manufactured in Lansing...

I have a loaded sierra SLT but I got it back in 2019 as a 2018 left over for 14k off MSRP back when that's how car deals used to play out. Now? Forget it. People need to chill out the dealers and manufacturers have us jumping over one another for crazy prices. I'm done buying cars for a while, I think my next truck will be a 2500 witout any features if prices don't come back down. |
