Steering Rack Problem
i have a 2016 2SS, and the steering rack went out. i checked the vin and the recall is no longer available, also searched GM for the part per my chevy tech friend and the rack is now discontinued. my question is will i have to now find a used rack specific to my year and car? or is there a chance that i may be able to put a rack in from a newer year? my car is down and it is my daily, so im pressed for advice. thanks everyone!

The recall that was repaired on my 2016 was replacing a bolt that could possible rust and break. You should be able find a replacement in any junk yard, ebay, marketplace. They should be available. Newer years have a different part numbers so I doubt they are the same.

I would assume they fixed the recall issue. It also shows it is 1" longer. If you go to GM parts site and put in the 2016 rack number they do not fit the 2017 or higher and the same if you input the 2017 part for the 2016 so I doubt they are interchangeable. They are interchangeable from 17-22 according to the parts catalog but it looks like those years every suspension RPO code has a different part number so if you are buying for a 17-22 you'll also need to RPO code, FE3, FE4 etc.

There was a different power steering recall than just the bolt.
There is a thread on the forum for this. Here’s the NHTSA link: https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=19V086 |
