I mean, you can virtually run any Summer tire at the track. I ran Hankook Ventus V12 EVO2 and while they are not a track oriented tire, I ran laps that were only 3 seconds off of my PR at NJMP Lightning. They howled and protested AF, but they didn't cord, they didn't get chewed up, and with 320 treadwear they lasted for thousands of street miles after the fact. AND they're great in the rain.

SC3s are a fast tires and can be lapped to within 1 second of a 3R if you know what you're doing. But they are less durable to heat from fast laps. For a 15 minute HPDE session you'll likely be fine. Especially if your hot laps are killed from waiting for point-by's from slower drivers.

Honestly, ANY tire will do (Except the Toyos ). Nobody on this forum (Maybe a handful) are outdriving a Summer Tire on track. I promise you.

This is exactly what I was wanting. I love the SC3's and if I'm only sacrificing 1 second for 2-4 times the life, I'm sold. I only do HPDE (currently), so my sessions are around 20 minutes. I just starting tracking my car in January of 2023, so seat time tires are more what I'm looking for. There definitely is a lot of waiting for point bys though.

You do you. Look across the field of race cars at a NASA event, and you'll see a LOT of RR's. The hoosier alternatives undoubtedly are faster, but are effectively one session tires for qual pace. Lots of folks setting PB's on 10th to 15th heat cycle including me.

I made a mistake and misread your original post. In the context of the thread title I had the "R888R" in mind since we were talking mainly about street tires. The "RR"s as you mentioned are quite good.

There are definitely better options for the Camaro that are available, but the RR are excellent.

R888Rs are definitely junk. My apologies for not reading your post carefully.

Nanking Ar1 is a great alternative IF only used as a track tire. They are too noisy for daily use. But on track, they’re a little slower than 3r but provide better life.

Agreed, the 888's are not good tires. I've run a lot toyos on track and they've always hit a sweet spot of performance and longevity. RA1's for a long time, 888's for a minute (and like you said, a stinker), and for the last few years, the RR.

Based on the testing in grasroots motorsports, the nankang ar1 prob would be a good (and i presume, cheaper) option - good call dabjbr

Look at post 268 for more data - but yeah 1sec sounds about right.

KHCoaching is highly respected here, and I respect him as well. .....but post 268 tells me nothing without the corresponding tire temps and PSI from the Cosworth data or some other CANBUS acquisition method. It's incomplete at best.

Here's some data in the SC3R favor. I'd go as far to say as the SC3R is the best Track tire other than a slick. Not even Michelin can beat it as far as consistency is concerned. July 18th, 2022 was my best session ever at NJMP. Running 1:29s consistently other than laps with traffic. I started the session with 26psi and ended up around 34psi hot. 32-34psi hot is the sweet spot for these tires when coming off of the track. It was approx. 90*F ambient that day. A very hot day. Tire temps reached approximately 210*F. The SC3R love heat and if you're not getting them hot enough, you're not getting them in their best operating range.

Attached is the data for a 25 minute run. Most clubs run 15-20 minute sessions and most guys don't have the stamina to run a full session. I can't recall if it was open track. It may have been. Laps, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9 all had traffic taking me out of the 29s. I finally got tired around lap 14 which explains the times dropping off. With clear track I would have completed at least 9 or 10 laps in the 29s. For reference, local fast guys run 1:32-1:34 on average. 1:35-1:38 are the gatekeepers. 1:30 and Sub 1:30 are race times.

Not only did the tires remain consistent, they were predictable. The car's oil and water temps were all in line. The brakes showed no fade. They were stock rotors and pads, with Castrol SRF fluid. As a matter of fact, my car was mostly stock here, running on pump 93, with BMR sway bar linkages, and cradle braces which may not really be any better than stock if we're being completely honest.
