Need some help. My 2016 2ss convertible top final went bad like all others on this thread. My questions is I need to replace the folding top rear side rail link trim cover both sides.
GM part #’s 84237014 and 84237015. - are these parts driver and passenger side or interchangeable. Sure they are not. - how recently has anyone got #84237015 this part is on back order, #84237014 available - any chance someone has #84237015 sitting around and willing to sell Thanks |

I have no idea what a 84237015 is, but it wasn't necessary for me. All I needed were the two body panels (84797933 & 84797935).
![]() Below is what I bought. The $4 clip and $33 pusher bars were not needed for me. |

Thanks to all who provided info in this thread... I have a 2017 2SS which I bought in 2016, so it has the old 2-slot rear window regulators.
The passenger side sliding door trim piece got bound up in March 2022, and I asked the dealer to fix it because I assumed it would be covered by my GM Protection Plan (extended warranty). Nope, turns out that the convertible top motor is the only covered component. They charged me $1300 to replace the bent linkages and associated pusher/rail/etc as well as the upper trim piece that houses the sliding door. Now the driver side sliding door broke as well. Thanks to the info here, I learned that the upper trim piece is easy to remove! So I removed it and saw that the bracket that holds the spring had snapped free. I removed the broken remnants and replaced the trim piece while waiting for new parts. During that time, it was nice to be able to use the top normally. The only gotcha was that the sliding door would stay in the "open" position unless I wanted to slide it closed manually. Since I was replacing the driver side panel, I thought I would also replace the passenger side again. When I removed the passenger side panel, I saw that when the dealer did the repair in 2022, they cut off the extra clip. This despite the note in BOLD in the TSB: "Important: Under no circumstances should the 3rd clip be removed from the quarter upper trim panel." They also did not replace the little round fastener above the rear seat cushion, so that's been missing for a while now. Nice to know that I paid top dollar for bottom quality work. Since I didn't have any damaged linkage / pushers to fix, I only needed to order the two "Upper Quarter Trim" pieces: 84797933 and 84797935. Anyway, I decided to make the extra slots in the top of the rear window regulator as others here have done. See below for pictures of the procedure. After making the new slots, everything is back together and working perfectly! A few tips: - To get the tonneau cover to stay in the "open" position, I opened it pretty far. At that point, the car stopped auto-closing it while I was trying to work. - I covered the gap up with an old t-shirt just to try and keep debris from falling in. You can see that in the pics. It worked pretty well, just have to be careful when removing the rag so you don't dump the debris down into the gap that you're trying to keep clean! - Instead of a vacuum to catch the metal filings, I placed a strong magnet next to the area where I was drilling / cutting. It caught most of the debris as you can see from the pics. When it got too hairy, I would remove it, clean it off, and put it back. I used it at the end to pick up additional stray filings. ![]() Top open, old trim panel removed, rag in place. ![]() Passenger side now. It's pretty easy to "test fit" the new panel and outline the spot where the additional clip lands. I noticed that the other clips landed a bit inboard of where the slots are though, so I needed to locate the new slot a bit outboard of where the outline is. I measured the length of the old slots, and used a hammer and nail to make a little indentation at the center point for the end holes. ![]() Pilot holes drilled. Magnet picked up the metal shavings nicely. ![]() Step drill bit. Very useful for making the holes the right size. And easy to find the correct size too... Just insert the bit into the existing slot and note where it stops. In this case, 1/4" is the right size. ![]() Pilot holes are now drilled out to 1/4". Magnet friend doing its job again. ![]() Used a Dremel to cut two slots, then removed the center chunk with needle nose pliers. I erred on the side of making the slot too small rather than too large, so I knew I would need to remove some more metal. Before moving on and milling out some more metal, I did a test fit to see which side of the hole needs to be milled out more. ![]() Slot enlarged, magnet is hairy again. After cleaning up, the panel fit into place with minimal drama and/or cursing.

Matt, would you care to divulge what dealership you took it to in Mar 2022 that removed the 3rd clip? Thanks

I’d complain to them if I thought it would do any good, but after 3 years, I’m guessing that the folks responsible have moved on. Cheers, Matt

Thank you for the reply. Simpson Irvine is where I happened to order/buy my car. I haven't been there since 2022. Although I had mostly decent experiences there from 2017 to 2022, I like to ask when I see someone has visited a dealership in O.C.
