Borla question
Current vehicle 2020 2SS 1LE M6. Considering Borla Atak axle back exhaust as I’d like a bit more of a throaty sound. Is the sound improvement worth the $2000+? I’m interested in maintaining the NPP control so Borla was my choice for that reason. I’ve listened to their comparison videos online but honestly I’m just not sure I can get the true feeling for the sound like that. Anyone who has gone from stock NPP to this? Am I looking at the wrong setup for that throaty sound? Any thoughts would b appreciated. TY

I have done this on my previous SS but I went with the S-Type vs the Atak because after hearing both the S-Type just sounds better. I also did the cat back and not just the axle back. You want the cat back so that you get the Borla X pipe. It sounds better than the stock X pipe.
The S-type and the Atak will be noticeably louder if you go with the cat back system. Tour will be quiet in the car but slightly louder than stock Tour mode. Sport/Track will be noticeably louder than stock sport/track at normal driving speeds and will be much louder at full throttle. |

I have heard Borla Atak axlebacks side by side with my stock NPP (without the headers and the new bottom end with the more aggressive tune I have now), and it's louder, deeper and "rumblier" in sport and track modes, somewhat subdued in tour and, presumably, snow/ice. It's extremely hard to convey sound differences in writing, or even video clips, you should try and find another member who has a Borla and meet them up for a "demonstration".
My personal opinion is that it sounded good, maybe a bit better than stock, but definitely not $2500 better, plus it loses some of the "raw edge" the stock exhaust has. Corsa does a much better job at preserving it IMO. Oh, and I can't stand the soft looking, knurled tips Borla uses (except for the $$$ carbon fiber ones), they don't mesh with the body design, stock and Corsa exhaust tips are way better.

I've been debating Borla vs Corsa myself. You're not the first person I've seen mention that the Corsa sounds better on the Camaro. Curious as to what made you think that? Was it louder than the ATAK?

I might have gone with Corsa if they had the NPP exhaust out at the time. Borla ATAK was amazing though regardless.

Nothing but the best. My money is with Borla when it comes to performance exhaust system. Corsa, Miltek thereafter.
Stuck to what i know from my LS3 build going Borla S-Type this time though w/ carbon fiber (CF) tips 11924CFBA. Reason i didn’t go ATAK is too loud and in my subjective opinion gets raspy/rattly at top end. Reads like you got 1LE soul glo w/ satin flow. For anyone with a dark wheel profile really, I’d highly suggest saving extra month or two and spring for the CF tips it matches neatly. The Borla logo extends out just right and matches the calipers! I am concerned how carbon fiber will hold up over long haul between sun exposure and debris. But with million mile warranty will cross that bridge if get to it. That being said them AWE diamond tips are sure nice looking also. Good luck in your decision!

I have heard them all in person and can confirm videos only do so much. They will give you an idea but trying to compare exhaust sounds through videos is just not that helpful.
In person, Borla ATAK has a bit more of a muscle car sound, and Corsa has a bit more of an exotic sound, but both are great and honestly very similar. AWE Touring is my favorite for these cars, and its also cheaper. The only downside is that there is no NPP option. The sound is much more refined, with a deeper and more aggressive tone than the two above options. Its still pretty loud but not quiet as loud as the two above, but obviously louder than both when they are in stealth mode. If you JUST want an axleback or catback, I would say get the AWE Touring. If you plan on headers in the future, get the Corsa or Borla S type. Borla ATAK NPP is not as good as Corsa and when you have headers its a pretty noticeable difference, where the S type can tone it down a good bit without being overly raspy like the ATAK is.

I’m not going to try and convince one way or another… although I have the Corsa Sport non NPP. Louder and deeper while idling / cruising around town and whisper quiet cruising on the highway. The ridiculous high pitch shotgun popping is pretty much gone. Although it still has plenty of decel gurgle.
Depending on how you like your tip placement, I figured I’d share a couple pics of mine. I like my tips to be tucked in and asked that the exhaust be pushed back to the stops. The exhaust grows ~ 1/2” when hot, so they look good, at least to my eyes, the way it was installed. |
