Does Anyone Here Have A 60s Muscle Car
Seeing the thread about members having other gen Camaros gave me the idea for this thread. Who here has a 60s or 70s classic car? I have a 1968 Beaumont SD396 that I have owned for over 20 years. Right now some of you are probably saying What The Heck Is A Beaumont. It is a Canadian built car that is based on the Chevelle platform. It's basically a Chevelle with a few changes like front grill, tail lights, dash and a few other changes. My car is basically like a 1968 Chevelle SS but a lot rarer. There were over 60,000 68 Chevelle SS cars built but only 712 68 Beaumont SD cars built. They could not be sold in the US when they were new so very few are here in the states. It is estimated that there are between 70 and 100 68 SDs left. My estimate is that there are maybe 15 or so in the US. The original 396 engine was gone when I got the car. It now has a 427 bored .070 making 543 horsepower.

Funny, but what am I seeing in that grille? Sort of a Pontiac/Oldsmobile mash-up, from the era? It *is* a beaut -- don't back it into the water!

The grill is similar to a Pontiac grill. It also has a Pontiac dash/instrument cluster.

I ALMOST got a 69 chevelle SS but instead went with the ZL1. When it came down to it, I wanted to be able to drive the car and not worry about resale value or messing up the paint. 4 months into owning a zl1 and rarely drive it except on track days. Haha.

close enough. been in the family 50+ years. 72 el camino ss. 2nd owner, mom bought it used in 72. been through a lot of phases. originally gold with white stripes and a white vinyl top. lsx swapped ~10 years ago. basic stuff: ported 243s, btr camshaft, tbss intake manifold, 92 mm tb, long tubes, 373 gears, 4000 yank converter, 2" drop spindles, ls1 camaro brakes yada yada. it has around 80k miles on it.
hoping to get updated wheels on it next year. we have all had other vehicles but the elco will never leave.

Cool Impala. Is that an original Z11 427 "Mystery Motor" car? If so, it is extremely cool and rare. I like it.

That being said I fly a single engine piston aircraft which almost certainly has more risk and lots of folks ride motorcycles which is going to entail more risk. We all only get so many trips around the sun and I’d rather live life and enjoy it rather than constantly fretting about what is inevitable anyway. Still not getting a 1969 Z/28, even though at this point in my life I can afford it. I’ve grown to appreciate modern conveniences too much. |
