According to Prey Performance, the jury is still out as to what's faster when properly tuned, mod for mod.

Not getting into the debate of one Vs the other, as my A8/A10 comparison isn’t completely apples to apples, just suffice it to say if you get a newer version SS you get the A10, older, the A8.

What you find out in the wild, given your desire for an overall package, & what you can afford, may determine what it is in the end.

The only 6th gens I've owned were the A8, one developed shudder, the other didn't.

That said, I've had several A8 GM trucks and currently in an A10 AT4, and in the trucks the 10 speed is a night and day difference. The shifting on the A8 in the trucks will jerk you around like there's no tomorrow.

i'm a firm believer in 6 gears being the perfect balance.
bikes have stuck with 6 gears for decades. if 8 or 10 speed was better surely sports bikes would have gone that route by now

Mandated fuel economy numbers, my friend. The A10 has 3 overdrive gears and the A8 has 2.

I think on bikes, the deciding factor is the size of the gearbox - to keep the packaging tight enough for a sport bike while running more than 6 gears, you need physically smaller cogs and mechanisms, which reduces reliability and/or increases costs. It's easier to have a bigger gearbox with beefier mechanicals in cars and trucks because they are out of the airflow.

Please, I had both and the A10 is definitely quicker and the gears hit different!!! Not to mention the lag the 8 speed had is NO WHERE in the 10 speed

I had a 16 ss A8. Have 21’ LT1 A10.

A8 was weird, showed what I call character, which I dont want in a trans. A10 is more refined. Whole car feels like it despite being LT1.

The gear tallness is better. In auto mode its better for sure.

I also only have 1400 miles on my car so still in break in.

a8 vs. a10

I own a 2018 Camaro 2SS Redline 6.2L with the a8 tranny. She is all Black with the Redline tags. Sweet ride i must say, it is really difficult not tacking advantage of the power. I haven't had it over 160 yet since all the exhaust's upgrades Borla 2 pipe with AFE Shorty Headers and Injen Flow master. I was wondering about the a10 transmission swap out. My a8 has no shutter. Going 40-50mph and stomping on the peddle the tail wags a little, saying goodbye.
My next upgrade is getting rid of the AFM. Changing out to a #1 race cam, upgrading the throttle body to a 95mm, A MSD intake manifold. Larger rear and front rims. I would love any tips.

Why do you want to swap out the A8 if you don't have the shudder?

I see no real benefit swapping if your a8 is fine. Seems like one of those scenarios that may benefit more from a trade in if you really want the A10

Never driven the A10. But if its anything close to the A10 in the ZL1 it should be better all around.

A8 in my SS still going fine after 79k miles. Still owning Chargers and Mustangs at stoplights.

This is a very ill-informed statement.

On the plus side, it has an extra gear between your 4th and 5th (the other extra overdrive gear is meaningless) and it shifts a bit faster stock. The huge downside is the sheer cost with the mechanical and software difficulty of the swap, when you can achieve a similar shifting experience (sans the extra gear) with a proper trans tune, so overall value for the money will be very low.

There are 3 versions of the A10, by the way, and only the top one in the ZL1, the 10L90 matches your current max torque output in the A8 (8L90).

I had both. I had a new 2019 C7 that was a hunk of junk from the get go and got the lemon law. A8 had shudder at under 450 miles and i even had the Range, Then had a 2021 LT1 with a A10 that seemed fine and never any trouble. Now i got a 2015 C7 with a A8 that never had any work done on it and works fine. It seemed to have that harsh shift out of park during the summer but odd since it cooled off it has been fine with no more harsh shift once out of park. It would knock your teeth out. I will see if it comes back in real hot weather.
