This collector's edition is worse than Dodge's Last Call edition's and I thought those were mediocre at best. I'm not bashing anyone purchasing it, at least that's not my intention, I'm more so just disappointed.

"Clunking Noise" Manual Trans from 1st to 2nd low rpm
Is anyone experiencing a clunk or two with the manual transmission switching from 1st to 2nd at low RPMs? It happens when I'm in 1st slowly taking off and push in the clutch to transfer to 2nd. It's not grinding, vibrating or anything of that sort but more pronounced mechanical "moving parts" sound after the last few miles. I have 265 miles on her now. The clutch operation and shifting feels really nice and smooth. I have read a few threads from several years back and some replied "this is normal for the Camaro". I also understand that I am sitting practically on top of where the transfer takes place. I'm sure I'm over thinking this. Any extra info or recommendations would be appreciated.

GM truly crapped the bed on this, because they could have easily released a Performance Pack like Ford or even the Direct Connection HP upgrades for the Hellcats that Dodge did.... Imagine a pulley swap, trans tune, and maybe something smaller for 3-4k with a factory coverage from GM for the ZL1. Maybe a quick tune/small HP bump for the SS for say 1k... ANYTHING would have been better than another sticker/wheel package.

Why would GM spend money making the car better for 350 or so cars, that’s a fantasy. If they were going to increase power or any other worthwhile mod they would have done so long ago so that they could justify the expense.
Many point to the one year only ZR1 effort on the Corvette, that makes some sense, first off the car wasn’t cancelled and makes money. It was the end of an era for the front engine car and Chevrolet knew it. The Camaro has been fizzling away because Chevrolet essentially stopped development after 2018’s awesome intro of the 1le. Dodge on the other hand kept developing the Hellcats with exactly what red blooded Americans want, more power. It’s a great formula and Tim Kuniskis gets it. Horsepower equals car sales. GM moved Al Oppenheiser out of Camaro and the car effectively just stagnated. Think about it, they actually castrated the car by removing the 1le for the last year, good for me bad for those who held out. Last edited by Camfab; 10-25-2023 at 02:55 PM. |

Yeah you’re right what a disappointment, they “only” produced a 1025 HP car that virtually every piece was redeveloped that runs the qtr in 8 seconds. Boy did they screw the pooch….

With regards to the ZL1, a simple pulley swap/intake/tune gets the car to about 750 crank, roughly 650hp wheel.... LITERALLY everyone would have opted for that.... but nooooooo I would also throw in price. My 5th gen 1SS cost 31k MSRP. The same car in 2016 cost roughly 38k.

Development includes HP not just refinement. The car mods you speak of are great for dyno queens. In typical GM form the supercharger was not developed with adequate cooling for even stock levels of boost. Anyone who’s bought GM products in the past knows what I’m talking about. Parts are only just good enough with the idea of improving them at the cost of consumers who are first to jump in. The fact that this car in 2024 still has major issues with product reliability as well as the absolute worst quality control in the industry tells me that GM will never change.

I mean, my Redeye from day one had to have the rear diff replaced and it's been an issue on ALL Hellcat models since 2014....and yet it still was happening to new cars...

First off, that’s disappointing to hear about your rear end. My impression of QC on the Camaro is not good, and Kia has far better fit finish and QC than the Camaro. The Camaro is is now knocking on 90k and there is zero excuse for anything but perfection.

https://www.motortrend.com/news/ever...edition-model/ Kia right now has massive issues with engine failures throughout their model lineup. New engines dying at 20-30-40-50k.... really bad...

So the question is, how long have these Kia engines failing and what is Kia doing about it. GM has had lifter issues in the LS based engines and still has issues in the LT engines. Forgetting oil pump failures and a continuous assortment of issues which seem to be illusive to GM dealers. There is simply no excuse for this, and I’m not excusing KIA, but KIA is not in same league as GM and their cars are bargain base cars.
GM loves to sweep problems under the rug and their dealerships are no better. It’s really sad, as I’ve really tried to support US based OEM’s. Yes I realize that Dodge is absolutely not owned by a US based company. Last edited by Camfab; 10-25-2023 at 05:58 PM. |
