I replaced my reverse light bulbs and license plate light bulbs this evening. For the license plate bulbs, I went with cheap Amazon 194 led bulbs. For the reverse light bulbs, I went with the Nokya NOK5202 hyper white 21W bulbs. Looks so much better.

Are these the ones you used for the reverse lights?
Nokya NOK5202 NOKYA 7440 (D)20mm HYPER-WHITE 21W (1PC) https://a.co/d/5Q0zzVd

I want to replace the reverse light bulbs as well, but I think that led bulbs would be a better choice. I just don't know if they have to be combined with resistors, which is something that I would like to avoid.

Not sure if that is avoidable. Unlike front turn signal bulbs that only need small, easy-to-incorporate resistors to fool the BCM, the incandescent reverse bulbs in our cars are higher output units that in turn need a higher activation voltage to illuminate. For some reason, there is always some voltage at these bulbs even when the trans isn't in reverse, which is not an issue on the stock setup.

Howevet, this means that if you put in LEDs that have a much lower opening threshold, there will be leakage and the LEDs will light up dimly even when they're supposed to be off. Several threads were started about the issue back when this was first attempted, and the consensus was that a resistor, preferably with a heat sink, is the simplest way to go.

I bought a Gen5DIY harness with a resistor wrapped in thermal sheathing, and it has been working just fine with high lumen LED bulbs since 2018.

Thank you Arpad, as usual very helpful info!

There is also a thread that deals with this - and very successfully it seems:

https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showt...hlight=Reverse

The OP suggested those LEDs and resistors that seem to work fine and solve the issue:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...0?ie=UTF8&th=1

I might give it a try. If this approach doesn't work I will try the Gen5DIY harness (got the link by any chance?).

Yes, those are the correct bulbs. There are a couple of options that don't require removing the rear bumper to install with the resistor that's needed (iJDMToy (sorry, don't have link) and Diode Dynamics (https://www.diodedynamics.com/backup...maro-pair.html) both have kits. If you don't have the correct resistor, the reverse lights & backup camera won't shut off. These hyper white halogens seemed like a much simpler option so I went with those.

Here are a couple of threads with more info:

Thank you Damon. These halogen seem to be a very simple alternative indeed. Do you know how they compare with the stock ones in terms of brightness, as I cannot tell this from your photo above?

Don't see the 2016-2018 product anymore (I have the "smaller half" of this harness), but they do have the one your 2020 needs.

Installed ZL1 Addons lift pads on the ZL1 and washed it.

Dropped it off on Sunday the 22nd and it's finally finished today. They said they have a helluva time getting XPEL perfect on black and had to redo almost every panel, but it did come out perfect. I highly recommend Dallas XPEL. Not the cheapest, but they definitely know what they are doing.

Very nice!. Yes, the company that did mine had the same issues. Especially the whole front grille/splitter area..lots of nooks and crannies and angles they have to get to tuck properly. They had mine for almost 3 weeks but I told them I didn't care how long it took, I wanted it RIGHT when I picked it up and they didn't disappoint!

The ZL1 wheels are cool, but i'd have to agree, if i had a ZL1 i'd put the SS 1LE wheels on it.

I did my first transmission oil, filter change and custom pan swap today. I just drilled a hole in the original pan for for a spill free no hassle drain, going to install drain plug bung in it as well. After draining for a day into the catch pan I measured what came out and pumped new oil back in. I will say this oil stinks worse than the diff oil!

Finally received my mats for the ZL1. I had these in my previous ZL1 and my Redeye.

Just need to finish the interior detail so I can put them in.

We got 3 inches of snow today. They dumped rock salt on our work parking lot.

I didn't do anything with my Camaro today, but I now know what I'm going to be doing with it this weekend.
