Oil change intervals

I have a 2017 SS and would like to know some opinions on the oil change intervals. I beat on it pretty hard and was thinking of 5K changes. I'm using synthetic.
Thanks Ken

I simply let the car tell me, which is usually around 3,500 mi. (or about a year).
So far that's even more often than your 5K proposal.
I track my car 4/5 days per year.

The oil life monitor is very good but you should base it off your driving. Typically your safe not letting the oil life monitor fall below 20%.

As long as you are using the recommended full synthetic and changing once a year, If you drive like a grandma and do only highway miles, every 7k is fine. If you drive normally and do some spirited driving, every 5k is fine. If you do lots of heavy spirited driving and or track it often, you should consider oil changes more often.

3.5k is a good number or twice a year

The car will tell you. Although I do change it between 40%-20% life remaining.

It depends how much you drive. I change it every year, even if there's only 2,000 miles on it. Otherwise I'd say 5,000 is a good number, especially with the Mobil-1 synthetic.

I change it in the single digits every year, because I know the algorithm is timing out. I think I got to 2% this year. I'm very certain my oil is not 100% shot just because 365 days have passed, but I do the change anyway.

I know plenty of ya'll are gonna call me old fashioned but I ain't THAT old - I still believe the best way to ensure your motor will last as long as possible, with no issues, is by changing the oil at NO LONGER than 5,000 miles no matter WHAT the oil life monitor says. Some people will see their monitor go all the way out to 6000-7500 miles. Absolutely not. Do not fall for that. You're just asking for trouble, especially with these variable displacement heads and all the direct injection and other nonsense on modern engines.

Oil is cheap. New or rebuild heads aren't. Change your oil every 3000-5000 miles.

Do you have proof that following the Oil Life Monitor causes harm/damage to the engine? I mean if "you" feel this way, that's one thing, but to make a statement like that without proof is simply ridiculous. You specifically say "you are asking for trouble..." What trouble? What proof do you have that there will be trouble.

What I always find interesting in many of these threads is that some people feel they are smarter then the engineers that designed the motor and systems that run the motors. Maybe some people are?? Not sure... I know I'm not... So if the engineers that designed the motor and system put a system in place that tells me when to change my oil... Well... That's what I'll do, unless proven otherwise that the system is wrong. I've been using the Oil Life Monitors in all my vehicles for years and years now. Never had a problem yet. To each their own...

He may well be overly cautious, but then engineers are also forced to design to a price point and a desired component life expectancy, not to the best of their abilities. Hard to know where the truth lies unless you have the funds to experiment and gain reliable data points yourself.

no proof but I do know clean oil is better than dirty oil and when the filter is full of contaminants the bypass on the filter let debris into the engine without getting filtered that is fact! " oil changes are cheap insurance for longevity of you motor "

And is it fact then that the oil life monitor doesn't tell you to change your oil before that happens?

pretty sure the bypass valve is going to open for cold starts for a lot of people whether filter is new or old.
