I got almost seven years out of the OEM battery. I replaced it just because of its age. It was still holding a charge but I felt that wouldn't be the case much longer.
If you're desperately trying to save weight wherever you can, then the added cost of a lithium-ion battery might be justified. Otherwise stick with the OEM battery. To back up my point about weight savings, the Corvette ERay will come from the factory with a lithium-ion battery. The Corvette engineers tried to save weight at every possible corner to compensate for the added weight of the electric motor and batteries.

Thanks for the replies. Antigravity is out. Crazy $$. I got a low battery warning so I'm assuming it's the battery. I'll have the battery tested, and the charging system as well.
I'm sure the unusually hot summer here in S. Florida didn't help.

How often do you drive your car? I haven't replaced the OEM battery in my 2018 since I bought it new in 2018 with it having nearly 40k miles on it now. I live here in Savannah, GA so similar weather as you in Florida.
I'd go with OEM and call it a day. But if you don't drive it much, I'd put a battery tender on it to help prolong the life of it. |

I've never had an issue with any OEM battery in any of my gm vehicles. I'd never bother with any other battery... for what? I'm going to replace the OEM battery in my '18 Tahoe before winter hits. Not having any issues with it, it's just almost 6 years old now. |

It's my daily driver. 22K. Bought it new February, 2020. I'm thinking OEM as well Looks like p/n 88864541. I found it at Summit for $167, but I might get it locally in case of any problems. One of the GM parts sites was $100 more.

Having the battery in the trunk, although inconvenient, helps shield the battery from excessive heat versus it being under the hood. I firmly believe that's why I got seven years out of mine. Every GM vehicle I've owned with the battery under the hood has had the battery crap out between 4-5 years.

So if I'm looking at that right, the anti gravity battery for an auto has a warranty of 5 years and the AC Delco OEM battery has a warranty of 3.5 years. I've never had to replace an AC Delco battery in less then 5 years and even after 5 years when I do replace them, I do it out of maintenance not that they went bad. To each their own, but I'd never do it. Update: I just tonight replaced the AC Delco battery in my Tahoe. It's the nicest of the options as well... $200. The original battery I just took out had a date on it... 6 years and 1 month old. So for the cost of that one Anitgravity battery I can buy 5 of these AC Delco batteries. If they all last like the OE one did, that is just over 30 years of battery coverage for the same price... Ya, you can keep those Antigravity batteries... The on-again-off-again charging logic in our cars is way too overprotective (AGM thermals, etc.) and will not charge the battery to full under normal driving conditions in my experience. Some folks have reported that driving with the headlights on will keep the charging circuit switched on more of the time (all of the time?) and do a better job of keeping the battery charged. |
