Paint Catch Can (?)

I recently bought a 23 Camaro LT1 and I love it! Since then I have had delivered to me a black J&L oil catch can. Does anybody know if I could spray paint the catch can red?

I have not yet installed the new catch can, but I have been thinking it would look a lot better in my engine bay if it was red. I am confident I saw (for example) some high temp red paint on www.amazon.com. I do not know for certain I need high temp paint, but I am just wondering if anybody can think of a reason why painting the catch can would be bad.

Thanks,
Steve.

I don't see any issue painting it, I would definitely use high temp paint just in case... Make sure you prep the can properly before painting so you get a good bond on the paint.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will probably start looking for a good high temp red paint and start prepping the surface of the catch can!

I'd try brake caliper paint like this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CPJLVC or maybe VHT header paint: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CPJLGM

I painted the big suitcase exhaust muffler to satin black using this VHT header paint, and it came out very good, it has just the perfect texture and no flaking at all.

I like the idea of using breake caliper paint. I will look around town to see if anybody carries a can of it.

Thanks,
Steve.

I guess I need to use some high temp primer first, huh?

It'll probably last longer if you do, but FYI I didn't use primer on the muffler, just cleaned and scuffed up the surface with sandpaper for better adhesion.

Oh, and for not buying it off of amazon and supporting local shops, the links I gave were just to show the exact product.

At O'Reilly's I found a can of Dupli-Color Engine Enamel With Ceramic that is supposed to be resistant to oil and fluids. Gee, I hope my oil catch can does not get all gunked up with oil (ha-ha).

I managed to score some 300 grit sand paper out of our painting supplies to scuff up the sides and top of the catch can.

If I can figure it out I will see if I can upload some pictures of the paint job and the final installation of the catch can.

Steve.

You could also powdercoat it.
