I don't have much to add, other than when I went to a square setup front and rear (so...wider up front than stock) it seems to make a positive different for me in the handling department. That seems to make sense to me, since as other's have said here, skinner front will result in more understeer.
I think the fastest way to better/quicker handling is at least go as wide on the front as the rear (or maybe even wider all around), different tires, and possibly play with the camber a bit. Good luck!
