I ordered a new 1inch cap plug for the air intake tube but I just saw that Phastek has this. Just waiting for them to be back in stock.

Almost every hardware store stocks Hillman plastic plugs in the aisle with boxes of individual fasteners. The Hillman 1" is the perfect size for both the opening on the firewall and the intake. I posted the Hillman part # in other threads. This actually looks like a factory part installed, although no fancy logo.

Well reading the responses... If it doesn't make any difference after it's removed... what would be the point of removing it? Why not just leave it alone, what does it hurt?

While removing it might not make a difference as fast as sound, it does clean up the engine compartment. Looks nicer without it.

Oh... I guess I don't spend time opening the hood of my car and checking out the engine bay.

It definitely reduces engine (intake) noise when removed.
I measured the reduction in an older thread. Maybe in stop-and-go traffic there is no difference, but anything faster...

I do. I wipe it down after every wash. Keeps it looking nice and clean.

Nice... Ya I don't do that. I do get the car professionally detailed every year, so the engine bay stays nice and clean. Honestly, I didn't even know there was a sound tube in these cars until I read this thread. So I'll just leave it alone...

Absolutely, no need to remove if it's not bothering you. I kept everything just in case I get bored and decide to re-install it someday.

I kept mine too.
It'll come up as Exhibit #15,362 at my Hoarders Anonymous Support Group someday.

The same plug as the one that comes with the sound tube except there's no hole.

Phastek now sells the kit with both plugs.
