It's hard for me to imagine them not even putting in the effort to let folks build a collectors edition online.

We're not talking about ordering. We're talking about Chevrolets online build and price tool. It's not an ordering system, just a way for customers to build their desired spec and see if any dealers have one on the ground.

Hi, I am a new member and this is my first post. First off I'll mention that I work at GM at Romulus Powertrain where we proudly make the 10 speed for the camaro and we make the 3.0/3.6 that goes in the camaro, blazer, and multiple other GM products. I custom ordered a black 24 Camaro 2SS automatic back in the the very first week that you could. The only options I added was a white stripe the whole length of the car, upgraded floor mats, and the upgraded exhaust. My dealership is a mid sized chevy dealer who always has camaros. They actually had 2 on the lot when I ordered mine. I've bought about 6 new vehicles through them in the past few years including a 2022 Silverado 3500 high country diesel that took 6 months to get. I custom ordered a new malibu through them in October and by March I never received it so I bought one somewhere else. My salesman is one of the owners. I use him because he doesn't have to speak to the manager and can make executive decisions like ordering, trade in estimates, etc.. He's always on vacation and never gets back to me though. Regardless when I check my order status it still says my order has been submitted but not officially accepted by GM. My friend ordered a new shark skin 2ss automatic on Monday and his dealer called Thursday with a build dare. I was the very 1st person at my dealer to put in a order for a camaro and my same friend was like #7 at the same dealer so he went to another dealer and in less than a week he's got a build date. I talked to the other owner of my dealer back when I ordered the car and he said he sees no reason why I won't get the car especially since it's a more expensive car and I didn't add any special options. He said they always get plenty of allocations and shouldn't be a problem. I called my salesman Thursday and he told me he thought they got confirmation on my car and had to double check but would get right back to me. It's now Saturday and I haven't heard back and when I check online my order still isn't accepted. The dealership my friend used I called and they said I could put in a order with them but they doubt I'll get it. Does anyone out there have any kind of pull or can help out? I talked to a co worker who works in Lansing and he's going to see on Monday if there's any reason my order hasn't been accepted due to maybe a constraint or whatever. I'm about ready to forget about it and if it comes in great, if not o-well. My other option is buying a 23 which would be about 8k cheaper when including my employee pricing and the additional 24's price increase. Thanks in advance. If it matters, I'm in the Toledo, Ohio area and I work just outside Detroit where the Woodward dream cruise is happening this weekend.

I know that. But why would they put in the effort to put in a dream builder to excite people and point them to a dealer that can’t place the order. It makes no sense do such a small quantity. It would just piss people off more then are now

Mr Horton, to the forums

Although I can't help you personally, I did read your post---if you break it up into paragraphs, it'll be much more readable and dealership employees who are members here may be more inclined to help

They literally do it for every single model, every single year. Why wouldn't they do it?

The online builder is also used by dealers with their customers so they can have a visual of their build. They're pissing more people off by not have it up.

Agree. Not having it up is also causing inefficient conversations and wasted time between the customer and dealership due to not knowing MY24 changes.. For example, I tried to order a shadow grey car and didn't realize it was discontinued since the configurator is still on MY23, which led to some back and forth with my dealer before finalizing my order..

A good compromise and what many other carmakers do now, is to have the most current configurator up online, but simply to have warnings or notifications around trim level/models that are currently backlogged, delayed etc. Check out Ford or Porsche websites and you'll see what I mean.

Welcome to the forum... sounds like you may have more connections than most but hopefully you can get some answers. Good Luck.

...and that 10 speed transmission you all build was the best thing to happen to this car and trucks as well.

Chevy online chat says our 2024 ZL1 vert y speed was built last week. I wonder how long it will take to ship.

I understand what you and Gearhead are saying. But this is such a limited run, I don’t know if they have a full grasp of what is available and what is not. I believe it was Gearhead who said previously (or on a different topic) “empty the shelves”.
I think trim and color, except for CE’s, was limited orders to supplier and in some cases none, depending on on hand inventory at the plant and supplier location.

I agree there should be a compromise or something about what options are available for 24, but I’m not sure a build and price tool makes sense. Just look at how many people want(ed) 23’s that can’t get them and there is a build and price tool.
Regardless of a build and price or not, the whole 24 MY was not handled well at all by the company

The options and pricing and colors have been available for a couple of months now via GM Authority. When I placed my orders (V6 3LT 6MT Recaro NPP yellow and a couple other little things) on 7/14/23 I gave each salesperson my own spreadsheet listing the options and codes and prices exactly as listed on GM Authority, so they could punch it in on their internal order system without any questions.

For example, I was able to know that the code for Nitro Yellow Metallic for the Camaro is GCP and that it's $395. Not as user-friendly as a configurator but it got the job done. Both confirmed they were able to configure the order according to my instructions without issue.

I also used Photoshop to grab the exterior computer-generated pics off of the configurator (in red) and then, using pics of the the Chevy Blazer in Nitro Yellow Metallic and the pics off GM Authority of the SS 1LE in that color, I altered the color of the red 2023 V6 from the GM site to look like the dijon yellow in those real-world photos.

I built mine using the 23 builder, then sent my dealer with all the options I wanted that haven’t change in 24. Then said change it from 1LE to Panther code. Didn’t realize that the NPP exhaust wouldn’t carry over (very dumb imo) and had to call it back and add it then resubmit

Also keep in mind, GM Authority is not a GM owned website. They take the best info they can get from insiders and it’s not always 100% accurate

That's the way to do it...

I'd also be curious to see if the searchable Chevy Online Inventory for 2024 ever becomes available, too.

Maybe we will be stuck looking at 2023 inventory until the production run is done for 2024.
