Smoked clutch
I have a ZL1 3 peddle. 10k and have driven a manual most of my life so I know how to dive them. Baby this thing and maybe have done 20-30 3-4 second burnouts since new…. How ever the other day I let loose. Burned out in 1st then 2nd then 3rd. After 1-2 seconds in 3rd ( first ti r I tried this ) I realized I was spinning the clutch not the tires. Fast forward 10 days and I tried a small burnout and the clutch just spun not this tires. Did I toast the clutch or is their some adjustment needed?

You burned the clutch totally out when you attempted to shift from
Second to third gear during a burnout. In that fraction of a second when you attempted to shift the rear tires stuck and the clutch slipped and you burned it up totally. You need to replace the clutch / pressure plate and probably resurface or replace the flywheel. |

![]() Hi Dathomas94, I'm assuming this isn't a joke post, since you have 62 posts... who told you that you should EVER be slipping the clutch between 1st and 2nd, and <gulp> 2nd and 3rd? Even slipping in 1st for wheelspin - with a ZL1, there's no reason not to just get it in 1st gear fully with clutch disengaged and punch the throttle - voila. If you have a 90's Honda Civic with a tune and a fart can exhaust - OK, slip it in 1st. Learn how to clutch like Misha - fully engaged, or fully disengaged, almost 0 slipping required. https://youtu.be/tnOICsofNbA?t=250 Last edited by Plasar; 07-30-2023 at 10:07 PM. |
