I have two garage doors. One is opened with a newer motor that has MyQ wifi built-in. My other door is older and doesn't have wifi. But, I bought a MyQ Garage Hub which installs near the existing opener and ties into your wifi, then can send a signal to open/close the door. Link to hub - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075H7Z5L8
Once I got MyQ set up on my phone, I then installed the SimpleCommands app and tied that into MyQ, then setup geo-triggered actions. When I leave the house, the app tells MyQ to close the door and vice-versa when I pull back into my neighborhood. It's been working great.

Another option for those with older garage doors (and no homelink buttons) is the GoControl garage door controller. It works well with Samsung Smartthings and other smart home systems. I've got these on both of my older (15 yr old) Chamberlain garage door openers.

I'm not a fan of these subscription based models either that force us to gravitate away from ownership and control over one's own life. Guess I need to invent a time machine and go back to the 1800's... but then no Camaro for me, oh well.

Spoke to Gen5diy briefly this morning. I was hoping there was an “easy” solution swapping to a 16-18 overheard homelink console. It didn’t sound like there was, that he was aware of. Many of the connectors are different, and they don’t currently offer an off-the-shelf solution. He mentioned he could likely build a custom harness depending on what features I’d like to maintain from the original console, and the 16-18 replacement.
While I’d probably buy a “kit” that included a 16-18 console and a plug+play harness, that adds the oem homelink setup (even if it simply leaves the onstar, and airbag light non-functional).....I don’t think I’m interested in investing the time/effort/money Guinea pigging this 1-off modification. |

I don’t blame you on that! It’s not worth it to me to spend money on something that might not work.

We are making something easy very hard. Garage door opener double sided tape and move on to the next challenge. This is a 2 minute job.

The homelink unit has enough range that I can depress the button coming down my street approaching my house. No need to stop and fiddle with anything in the console. (And I don’t want a removable garage door opener visible on my cars interior). |

Has anyone figured out how to get one of these wired into a 2019 yet?
https://www.amazon.com/HomeLink-60-H.../dp/B00A79G9FY Seems like a great solution. I do have the gen5 wire harness for my radar detector, but not the one with extra leads for stuff like this. Wondering if anyone has done this and tapped into the factory wiring in the overhead console.
