Everyone hopefully knows Dexron VI supersedes Dexon III and is backward compatible. Why GM would even list it as a recommended fluid is baffling but not surprising.

For the Dexron VI, does it make a difference which version you would use?

I’m guessing there’s no difference, if you look at the bottle one has French which means it’s probably Canadian and one is English only i.e. American. The latter one also says full synthetic.

use the one which is available...the second one appears to be the Canadian equivalent which has a different part number

Use the HP-MTF from TREMEC.

I ran it for 5+ years in my 1LE (that got tracked 10+ times a year) and now am running it in the Blackwing. It's a FAR better fluid than the ATF.

The ATF is a cost saving measure for GM.

If you REALLY want to keep using the ATF, then make sure you follow the fill procedure. You have to allow room for the ATF expansion when it gets hot. That's why they have you fill and then remove 8oz. No such requirement with the HP-MTF.

I have M6 ZLE, what is the recommended AC Delco OEM Fluid? I keep searching and I am finding that I cannot get a clear answer. Looks like I can find the 88861800 but then there are posts saying that was phased out by Dexron VI, but then I saw that was only for automatic transmissions.

Can someone point me to the proper OEM Manual fluid?

Dexron VI is thinner than the OEM Manual Transmission/ATF blend that was the factory fill. The Tremec oil is basically gear oil viscosity. If I were to use a Dexron III (thicker than VI) I would run this: https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants/...l-delvac-1-atf

Amazing stuff. Use it in our boat which calls for Dexron III and it has eliminated gear whine completely.

Cool The Misinformation is nutz!!

Go ahead... put gear oil in your M6 and within a few weeks/months one trackday, you will be complaining that your eLSD is chattering and making some weird noises when making left turns.

Maybe you are so focused on your part numbers to be warranty compliant you forgot there is another function of your M6's ATF grade fluid and that is to pressurize the eLSD to regulate your degree of traction and torque bias.

Maybe climb under the car and see that myriad of aluminum tubing leaving your transmission, making one full lap of your car and taking a stop at the rear diff and back... all in the name of "COOLING"!

Here is what you should be using: https://www.amsoil.com/p/amsoil-sign...on-fluid-atf/?

The GM stuff is junk... a search on any MSDS sheet will share the origin is garbage fleet fluids. Mobil1 is all marketing hype as well. The Driven oil is being used by many racers because their 4th or 5th rebranding campaign from its original Kendall GT is to give racing influencers free products so others will buy it. However... I have yet to see one teardown to show their "High as Giraffe P___Y pricing is any better than Amsoil or Royal Purple's R line.

ZLElvira, so is the “automatic transmission” product still fine for an M6 transmission? Honest question, I just don’t know if they’re ultimately all the same stuff. But then if so, I’m wondering why they don’t just say so on the bottle haha.

Email Tremec, yanno... the people that made the transmission, and ask them what they recommend like I did... and they'll tell you HP-MTF.

Why are so many people over complicating stuff like this?

Or stick to OEM if you are a warranty worrywart.

Geoff
The different part numbers are simply revisions for specifications to include other cars.

I have been using Amsoil products for years, all within very extreme use and with amazing results. I am 25 years old with 31 years of "Experience"... and if you do the math, I have been around long enough to remember when Royal Purple first started out and got to drive one of the many Mustang 5.0s they bought to do oil testing around Texas World Speedway for a week endurance comparison between their products and others. There is no doubt RP builds some of the best racing synthetics, but their Achilles is the stuff is so slick, it makes many engines leak as the seals cannot even hold it back. The Amsoil products offer extremely close protection and results without the leaks. I actually run the RP HP 5-30 that you can buy at Oreilly's on the street because I do drive my ZLE on road trips to the mountains from my home in South Carolina and I need the protection of my Cats when blasting around. The RP and Amsoil products also reduce the deposits on the valves considerably compared to Mobil1. However, when i go to the track, I use the Amsoil full race 15-50 oil because I push the car flat out for 30-minutes plus, or until the Low Fuel light comes on... at Road Atlanta in the heat. If you follow my YouTube Channel... I am developing new systems for the ZLE that can be used on other SS platforms. I also have a Playlist that has every video I have found, with great info pertaining to our cars in one place. ENJOY!!

I just replaced my M6 trans fluid at 6k miles.

The OEM fluid looked good... clear & clean... but I had noticed shifting was not as smooth on my 1-2 and 2-3 shifts.... so I decided to try ROYAL PURPLE.

My thoughts.

1. The person who decided to hide the drain plug under the trans support should be fired.
2. The person who put the rigid line right in front of the fill plug should be fired.
3. The person who decided not to use a magnetic drain plug should be fired.

I have only put a few miles on it so far, but noticed the shift smoothness improve immediately. I recommend this 100% even on a low mile car.

I also replaced the diff fluid with royal purple, but have nothing funny to say there.

Easy swap, and my diff now feels silky smooth HAHA

Did you drain all of the fluid out of the drain? My plan is to drain most of it out of the fluid temp sensor hole and then drain the rest (if there is any left) out of the drain plug above the brace. Hopefully it doesn’t make too much mess. Did you remove the brace to do this or just clean up afterwards?

Also did you fill until it was coming out of the fill hole or do the whole 1/4” below the fill hole thing?
