I have a Modern Spare in my trunk, and I wanted to keep it from bouncing over road bumps or sliding around during hard cornering.
The first thing I tried was a trio of adjustable length spring-loaded curtain rods (first photo). This accomplished the goal; however, due to their design they would create an audible buzz/rattle during high-rpm deceleration. The second thing I tried - and what I recommend - is a steel turnbuckle (McMaster Carr p/n 2996T16) with a rubber vacuum cap slid over each end. See 2nd and 3rd photos for implementation. You don't need to crank it super hard or anything; just tighten it enough so it's exerting a constant pressure, and check if it needs another half turn a day later as the rubber compresses. It's maybe not obvious from the photos, but both ends are riding along a corner so they can't slide away. And of course this is removable in seconds if you need that space for storage. |

Nice job thank you for the post , I as well want a spare , when I leave town , I like to as you to cover my bases . I was on Moderns Web site last week , and see there spare for the ZL1 is available now
I'm sure both your F &R tires fit in your trunk or at least in you back seat . ZL1 F I believe will fit the trunk , but the back won't. Thanks again for sharing and I hope you don't mind if I ask a question, in your post . I think it will barely fit in the back seat , passenger seat forward , tight but herd you can get it back there . Question: Has any ZL1 guys tried the fitment , rear tire in back seat?

Seriously though I just have a puncture repair kit and a 12 V tire inflator, and it actually does fit in the trunk under the trunk floor panel

Some flats can be fixed with those puncture repair kits; others cannot. Last year I cut a corner too tight on a canyon road, and a sharp rock took a gash out of my sidewall. We also have potholes around here that can cause a lot more damage than a nail or screw through your tread. |

2.Will a ZL1 305 tire fit in the front passenger seat?...again, no-one has answered with any certainty! This question is vital for anyone travelling in remote areas ( we have plenty in Aussie!), because whilst it's good to have a spare in the trunk that will fit front & rear of the ZL1, what do you do with the punctured rear wheel & tire if it is unable to be placed anywhere in the car? It would be good if some-one could try a "test fit" of the 305 tire inside the ZL1 to see if in fact it can fit, anywhere! |

Another option is , I could buy 2 front ( take offs ) and run the same size front , change out before we leave on any trip. That way fit in the trunk , or for sure in back seat.
