To cover or not
Happy Independence Day weekend camaro fam!!!
Coming from Washington state it was not unusual to cover cars in the garage when they were sitting. Now I’m here in central Florida and not sure I should do the same with my zl1 1le - this week especially with high 90’s and 75+ humidity. I’ve yet to hvac my garage but that is coming very soon What say you??? |

Most of the good covers will breathe, to let moisture out. If you’re only leaving it for a few days, I wouldn’t cover it. If you’re leaving it for a few weeks, then I would cover it. I sometimes leave a fan running on low and directed toward the car when storing them.

Covers are not needed indoors (closed garage) in FL. There is no dust unless you live downwind of a dirt farm. If the car is a daily driver, it will be wet most summer days.
The museum rule: the less you touch a thing, the longer it lasts. Covers can do a lot of rubbing and are hard to keep clean. Swirl city. The only time I have covered my car was when painting the house. |

SoCal, if my car is going to sit for more than about 9-10 days, I very carefully cover it (roll the cover on it, no sliding)... If it is only a few days, I leave it uncovered...

My car (formerly a 2010 SS, now a 2023 ZL1) sits for 6 months in a garage every winter. I never cover it. Washing the dust off in the spring seems a small thing compared to potential moisture problems from reduced ventilation.

I cannot stress this enough. You will do more damage to the paint putting on and taking off the cover than to just rinse the dust off.

I saw a guy put his new black F-150 into his driveway last year. Spent the first few days waxing it and making it shine. Then he put a cover on it outdoors, I cringed but don't actually know the guy(not a neighbor, just see it when I'm at work) so kept my mouth shut. We get a lot of wind here, and I wondered how long it would take. After he covered it a few times, I haven't seen the cover since.

If you need a cover for the car when it's sitting in your garage, out of the wind/weather etc, you do not need to buy a cover, because all you need is something to keep the dust off.
You can make such a cover yourself, or have Wifey make it for you! Just obtain a few flannelette bed sheets, & sew & cut & join, to the required size of your car, covering, hood, roof, trunk, & say 60-70% down the sides. I've been using such a home made cover for over 30 yrs, on various cars, with no problems, no dust, & no scratches. Pickles. |

No cover for me. I put a dehumidifier in the garage instead of an expensive HVAC upgrade, and it works very well to keep humidity down. The car still looks and feels almost new after 5 years.

Do you have young kids?
If youre in the the north and put the cover on in November and off in April, the cover is worth the safety if something ends up hitting it. It also keeps it clean but that’s not a big deal. I use the gm indoor cover. It goes on and off once a year. I think you need to think about how much activity there is around the car while it sits. The cover will “swirl” the clear so if you don’t have any risks, don’t put it on, but it’s better than a scratch. Being in Florida, sounds like you’re not gonna cover it once a year
