Question Excessive wind noise--dealer won't pull door panel and tighten mirror bolts

There are a few threads on this already, basically, people have noticed that side mirrors not being torqued to spec cause the mirror housing to not be flush with the side door panel. Well, on my 2019 I have the excessive wind noise and my right side mirror is obviously not flush with the body panel. Neither is the left one, although its a little better. Other Camaros i've looked at appear flush.

I showed my local dealer but they weren't able to recreate the wind noise. And they said GM wouldn't authorize the work on a "guess", and that to remove the door panel there are 6 clips that GM has not "released for availability" yet, and since they are single use only, they don't want to risk pulling the panel and not being able to get the clips. They say its because its a 2019--they aren't sure if the clips are the same as 2016-2018.

I asked him what they are doing if someone needs body work on just a mirror and he said they would replace the entire door panel because the "clips" aren't available (wtf?)

Does anyone know for sure if the clips are the same? I really want to see if my theory about the mirrors is correct. I asked them, if I were to find out the clips are the same, and could get some of them, would they do the work? And he did say maybe.

I'm also not above pulling the door panel in my garage but I don't want to damage anything.

The wind noise is driving me crazy, its bad at highway speeds around 70mph, sounds like huge gusts of wind are constantly blowing over the car, its deafening. I've already made sure the windows are working correctly, etc...

I’d pull the panel....did my c7 and 13ss .....easy if you go slow and look....guaranteed there is some thing online that would work for the clip problem. I’m not concerned with warranty.

Are 2017-18 clips same part number as 2019?

I don’t have any issues with abnormal wind noise being generated by the mirrors. However, I’m a bit bothered my the less than perfect mounting of the passenger side mirror. I’ve thought about asking the dealer to fix it but I worry about the attempt to do so causing a more annoying issue (like a whistling noise) to subsequently fight with them about. If the dealer was willing, would you let them mess with this?

If the mirror is not wobbling, I doubt that tightening bolts would close the gap. This is more about the shape of the mirror base. I'm surprised there isn't a rubber gasket to fill the gap...my Gen5 has one.

As for whether the gap causes wind noise, I would test that theory by putting some masking tape over it and going for a ride.

Did you try some tape to mask the bad junction?
Then drive it
If no more noise
You got it...

I pulled both door panels twice one day and not a single clip broke. I say try it yourself.

I'm getting this wind noise too after i opened up the drivers side door last weekend to wrap the door. I had thought it was caused from forgetting to put the covering back leading to the side mirror bolts. Yesterday, I put the cover back on including retaping the forward bolt access. Still have the noise

This morning the noise was diminished, i noticed the inside of door had settled for a better fit to the dash. I'm guessing this was the problem for me. Maybe when the inside door isn't fitting snugly, wind is allowed to flow through? .... but really i have no idea. Well, i'm glad it's "fixed".

I had a fun time trying to diagnose this issue with my dealership. I assume the wind noise you are referring to is a turbulent "whistling" noise at 45-70MPH? If so, I promise it is fixable. After a LOT of testing with painter's tape, we discovered that the noise was coming from the gap between the mirror glass and the mirror housing on the driver's side. We tried a bunch of solutions, and in the end, we ended up putting on a brand new mirror housing which seemed to fix it. I have not heard that whistling since
