Zl1 1LE, 15w50 or 0w40 for occasionnal track day amateur
Maybe this has been discussed before, but as an occasional track day amateur who will not push the car to the limit, is it worth it to change the 0w40 oil on the Zl1 1LE to the 15w50 for these track days? Would you consider sticking with the 15w50 at all times and let the car heat up properly when driving on the street? Or is the 0w40 plenty capable if the car is not pushed to the absolute limit of it's capacities?

I'd day you're fine with the 0w40 if you're very new to road course racing and won't be going often.

i was told by my local dealer it’d be the first thing they’d check if i popped a motor on track. They also flagged my car for a catback and CAI so who knows if that was legit. Point is they can be major league jackoffs if they want to.

Why not just follow directions? If it’s only an occasional deal, why not spend a few hundred dollars to protect your car?

Yes there's a reason why the 15w50 is required on the track.
Don't be that person who comes back and posts about warranty denial. |

I run 15W50 in my car all the time. Just make sure the oil is up to operating temperature before any aggressive driving.

I was changing back and forth which wasn’t hard as I own a lift but now I just keep my 15-50 clean run it all summer, car sits all winter. How dirty the oil gets depends on how many laps I get done in session’s and the drive to track and back with a little street use here and there.

I do this as well but I live in Florida so getting things up to temp is not as big a deal as other colder climates. I do about six track days a year and then would drive it to work once a week.

I run 5w40 in the winter and 15w50 in the summer since I drag race for about 6 months a years so need plenty of film protection on all the rotating surfaces. I run the Mobil One.

Did they physically see the CAI and catback on your car, or could they tell from a computer readout once plugged in?

Curve ball… once more readily available, anybody considered the new Mobil 1 5w50 for year around use?
