Carbon Fiber Wrapping Side Skirts
Hello,
So I am currently looking for side skirts to match the apr front splitter I was eyeballing the ikon carbon fiber skirts but seems like between the start of this week and now (was waiting on my paycheck tomorrow) they are all sold out everywhere. My budget is around $400 and I'm not a huge fan of cf vinyl wrap, so looks like realistically my only option in terms of buying one are zl1 style one that phastek and few others carry, but I'm not a fan of that style. I did notice AmericanMuscle had a set they labeled as "cf reinforced" in description but they look like Vicrez ones and they only offer vinyl wrapped ones. So during my search I stumbled onto a blog post about carbon wrapping parts (I'll toss the link at the bottom) and thought what if I buy a set of abs or similar skirts for $150 or so and then dump a few hundred into resin and weave. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it a bad idea? Is there something else I should consider? https://diyblog.commonfibers.com/blo...bon-fiber-wrap

These people have a CF side skirt kit that looks cool. I was going to buy it but it is only for stock SS and LT rocker panels, and I have ZL rockers on my Camaro and they couldn't tell me if they would work on the ZL1 panels because they hadn't tried yet. Price is right though.

The two I'm looking at are the virez ones, especially with their optional winglet and the streetaero ones (links below), they look fairly simple which is why I'm even considering the carbon wrap, I did also reach out to ikon to see if they plan on restocking their skirts but haven't heard back yet https://www.vicrez.com/vicrez-chevro...tters-vz100599 https://streetaero.com/products/acm-...olet-camaro-ss

Just got an email back from ikon and sounds like the side skirts I was eyeballing are pretty much discontinued now, so I will continue looking at maybe doing the carbon wrap and will update this thread if I do, in meantime I bought an undertray from a 2015 zl1 that will become my next project instead.

I wrapped my side skirts in carbon fiber vinyl to match my splitter, and I don't really like the cheap wrap I used. I wish it was more glossy and easier to keep clean. After a few years they just look black now. Still, I am happy that I went that route. I hope that you have some good luck and can't wait to see it finished.

I was going to have mine wrapped in the "glossy" CF warp locally at a vinyl shop, but he wanted about 300 bucks to do it! Decided nah..

Yea I'm not a fan of vinyl carbon fiber patterns, especially if there is a curve and the pattern gets distorted, my hope is that buying the carbon weave with epoxy should look pretty good but I'm still budgeting that since that's a lot of weave, probably looking at month or two from now. One big worry is that I live in fairly humid area and I guess humidity messes with epoxy curing.
