Not sure about previous years but the '23's have DOT 4 from the factory

That a fact? I haven't read anything stating this.

Can't figure out how to copy/paste but page 249 from the 2023 owners manual.

"The clutch/brake master cylinder reservoir is filled with GM approved DOT 4 brake fluid as indicated on the reservoir cap"

If this is true, it took GM over 5 years to finally start putting DOT4 in the car. Just like them finally relocating the fuel harness 4 or 5 years after the production of the 6th gen.

Are the seals in the calipers rated for DOT4? Just asking because I roosted the brake system in my 280 Z years ago doing that. Thought I would upgrade and ended up killing the entire brake system...and to top it off I took awhile so I went from brakes working to suddenly not brake at all.....what a surprise! Needless to say I would do some research before dumping in DOT4

DOT 3,4 and 5.1 are all chemically compatible. DOT 5 is not.

Yes. In the manual and track prep guide it states to use DOT 4 for road course usage. It's been there since 2017 when the ZL1 came out.

Like many other ZL1 owners on here, I've used DOT 4 in my 2018 ZL1 since 2018.

Thank you everyone. I have been using the various track modes, depending on the conditions and my mood, but always in track mode.
Question: does anyone ever use sport mode? only reason why I ask is sport mode uses the entire RPM range/goes up and down, and track seems to keep it near redline the entire session. Is this fine for the engine to keep near redline the entire time? I know it's kinda late after two years on track to ask lol but just wondering? thanks

I only used track mode for track and PTM in "Dry".
The performance mode keeps the revs high to faster accelerate out of corners.
Only issues might be hot engine oil temps and a little higher trans fluid temps.

But with mine, I can't really accelerate fast out of corners, steering angle combined with throttle cuts noticeable the power.
Did you notice the same? I probably have to reprogram my traction control with the torque.
I will be tracking tomorrow.

Edit: 04-21-2025
Accelerating out of corners were alot better, I adjusted Traction control with hptuners. It was not aligned anymore caused by mods.

By the way, did you change out the stock brake fluid to DOT 4? If you haven't then you need to do so before then next event.
Thanks, I just got 4 new SC3s, 15-W50, and DOT4 brake fluid. Diff and Tranny fluid still good. Inspected the entire car, ready to go!

Track/dry cuts some power in corners and uses a lot of traction control, the higher settings of track cut more controls and give more power but can get scketchy. Track/race is full power with no controls, all driver skill and scary. I like track/dry or track/sport 1.

Not quite. Track/race does not have stability control, but has traction control (which can limit power)

I've done two events, first one was rainy during the first half and dry in during the latter half. I flipped from Rain to Sport 1 and was really happy with the car all around. I recently did an event at a track I had only been to once before and which also had much less room for error. With that in mind I kept it in DRY for every session. The car felt really off to me and I was not happy with the balance or performance of the car. Checking my PDR after I saw the nannies light on over half of each session lol. The description from the other threads discussing PTM (about using dry if you're learning the track or for newbies) is apt, but it steps in quite a bit to limit rotation and is way too conservative on power application once you have your lines down.

I have read that the step up from sport 1 to sport 2 is quite dramatic though. I remember video from a nice c7 that spun out entering the track and slammed into the wall before flipping on its roof. Consensus was that if the guy had left it in sport 1 like he had prior that wouldn't have happened.
