Zl1-1LE tires

has anyone installed new tires on there 1LE that is not a track tire? Is the ride better and does it handle better in the rain? Had a C7 Z06 and in the rain was a little sketchy-hate to get this car and in the rainy season here in Florida crash it because of the tires.

TIA
Mark

Mark, the non 3rs (supercar 3) are a very good substitute for 80% road and 20% track. They do well in the rain vs the 3rs. You could also look at PS4s. Both will offer a slightly better ride quality for road as well vs the 3rs.

I will second the PS4S, it is more comfortable (the car is stiff so nothing is going to change that) and does great in the rain.

I will strongly disagree that the 3 is better than the 3r in the rain. It me be the thing between those two tires but the SC3 is still a severe liability in heavy rain, standing/pooling water at anything above about 40mph.
I don't have a problem with three sets of SC3's over the last 4 years or so but raining and poor road drainage you're going to have problems with it, 3 or 3R.

Non-track tires: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is the benchmark. This tire is good in all conditions above 40F and not on the ice. Also, check out Michelin Pilot Sport 5. The 3R is not good in the wet. I've owned the 4S and 3R, but not the 5. I now have MT ET Street R and Toyo R888R, and both are nightmares in the wet.

The PS4S are the good to tire for everyone but I'm on my 2nd set Pirelli P Zero tires. Both tires handle way better in the rain than the stock Goodyears ever will in the rain.

Both the 3 and 3R are NOT good in the rain nor in temps under 50. They are 100% a track tire because of the little tread and dont grip well at all unless their up to temp.

I run the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2

They can be had for about $1,000-$1,100 a set on Amazon and they get good mileage. They’re not a confidence inspiring tire on the limit but they provide good mileage, fast warmup, and decent wet weather traction.

They are not "100% a track tire." I have put 9k miles on my OEM 3R's no issue. If you live in a climate where it rains every day, then I guess they wouldn't be considered the best choice, but both are great tires everywhere else. I guess, too, I don't understand buying a 650 hp car and then putting tires on it that don't hook up.

All, I tracked my ZL1 1LE for the first time on Friday and the tires became soft and gooey and picked up every bit of rubber on the track. I can’t tell now if I still have others’ rubber embedded in or did I shred and melt them. They are a wreck, ughh lol, however they are still above the wear bar so technically are still good??

Gen 6 tires have been debated more than Trump Russia collusion. All things considered, the PS4S is unmatched

Hi all,

I had PS4s on my ‘18 ZLE. They were a great tire. I didn’t track then and won’t now with my new ‘22 ZLE. I would guess that many ZLE owners will not outdrive the PS4’s, especially if it’s not being tracked. My ‘22 will get PS4’s when the SC3R’s are done.

JMO,

Take care,

JJ

Well, yeah....they get hot. Then sticky. And that is the nature of the beast that they pick up the rubber "marbles" left on track. No harm except maybe some light vibration until they wear off. The 3 and 3R will run good till cords. If you still see wear bars then you got plenty of tread left for the track and dry street driving.

Post a pic of your tires.

Ok. So it's 90% track tire and 10% street tire. These tires aren't meant to be driven in the rain nor in temps under 60. Tread rating is the key.

I live in South GA so weather is ok for these tires but I put on a tire that'll get more than 8k or 10k miles before needing to be swapped out. Which I'm sure you're needing new tires now.

SC3 and 3r tires only hook up once properly warmed up, like I said. Go out and stomp on it 10 minutes down the road and the car will be dancing around. With my Pirelli's, I can stomp on it 10 minutes down the road and it'll hook.

I have a set of track rims that I put the SC3's on and use them where they are meant to be. I'm not doing that with my Pirelli's because they are my daily tire.
