Supercharger Tension Pulley Exploded and ruined my track day!

I'm curious how many people have had this happen before. The Tensioner/Pulley Exploded and broke taking out my supercharger belt at around 130mph and ruined my day.

From what i've seen this is pretty rare but curious if others have run into this.

Idler breaks from time to time (lucky most dont experience it). When the idler breaks, the tensioner snaps back and can get damaged.

Do you happen to have any good stronger replacements? Also do you recommend replacing the tensioner?

Both DSX Tuning and TooHighPSI have great 10 rib conversion kits that utilize the stronger LT5 tensioner. They both include new idler pulleys underneath the blower.

DSX has the option to add their new LT4 idler relocation bracket that gives you a ton more belt wrap (so you can utilize lower tension / loser belts and not slip).

I would purchase one of their kits, and then keep it an 8 rib (run on the back 8 ribs of the 10 rib kit). When you are ready to upgrade, you just get the appropriate 10 rib damper + 10 rib pulley, and you have a new bulletproof 10 rib front drive.

Yep, great advice and agree.

Also, don’t buy a Chinese belt. Dayco and Gates FTW. You’ll only make that mistake once.

I have the THPSI 10 Rib Pulley system, it uses a Lt5 tensioner. Love and it looks awesome having the big wide belt on the top pulley.

This may be a stupid question, but can you you still use the same Dayco or Gates belt meant for the stock pulley and can you still use the OEM size Griptec pulley?
