Crack in wi dshield

Took some type.of rock on windshield. About 6 inch crack....insurance said I have 500 deductible. Took it to safelite. Said it needs replaced .quote was $980. I have Progressive..if I go thru the insurance will my rates increase. Maybe someone knows a better option. I'm located in Atlanta

Here in FL, windshield replacement is free but does count as a claim. Although according to Geico, it will not cause your rate to increase. Jury is still out on that.

If you have a HUD, insist on genuine GM glass.
Just went through an issue with non-GM glass on my HUD-equipped Acadia.
Image was distorted. Owner of glass company even agreed with me.
Car was a CPO from a dealer that paid to replace the glass (they couldn't sell it CPO with a broken windshield), so I insisted on GM glass after the first replacement had the distortion.

in AAA you can change deductible just for glass. For me 500 ded vs 0 ded was almost nothing. Like 10 bucks for a half a year more.

It should not increase your rate from my experience.

Had one replaced in my Mercedes last year at Safelite in Nashville at their physical location. Was not a good experience.

If you're in Smyrna, Tennessee, I'd call Lawrence Glass or Jack Morris in Nashville.

If your deductible keeps you from making a claim, you need to lower it. A comp claim won't affect your semi-annual rate.

Agree. Had problems with previous vehicles and aftermarket glass.

Had a cracked windshield a few years back here in Jersey and went through insurance. Come to find out recently from the insurance co. that it counted as a claim. So I guess it depends where you live. The glass the insurance payed for seemed half as thick as OEM. Next time I’ll just pay for it myself and get the OEM.
