Cleaning Alcantara

Does anyone have tips for cleaning the alcantara wheel? I do a lot of miles and my wheel is really matted down and almost glossy looking.

I think the general consensus is to use sonax(cleaning product) + a brush + microfiber cloth.

Yup, Sonax is what you want.

I spray some of that on a brush, brush in circular motions, let it soak, and then dab dry with a microfiber clotch.

I go way simpler, some diluted woolite and micro fiber cloth, no fancy products needed. 3 years and it all looks like new.

Five years and +60,000 miles.
Dawn dish soap in warm water and an old tooth brush, dry with clean terri-cloth towel.

I need a good brush. I bought a suede/alcantara brush off Amazon and it really seems to soft to fluff the fibers. I agree on the Sonax cleaner.

Sonax works fine,
You can also use a rinseless wash on a damp MF to clean it as well. I use both and they both clean just as well. I use DIY Detail rinseless as its my favorite out of the ones I have used. then after just use a brush to fluff the fibers. I use the colorlock textile brush

I attempted to clean mine about a month ago and it didn't really fix up the matting on the 9 and 3 o'clock positions. My guess is I didn't spend enough time working the Sonax into the wheel and didn't wait long enough for the product to help pull up the dirt and grime in the fibers. A tip I have read is after driving the car, spend 30 seconds or a minute brushing the wheel so it doesn't dry with the fibers matted. Once you get it clean and do this it should help keep it cleaner and feeling nicer longer.

once its clean you need to use a brush to help fluff the fibers back up

Did this due to a careless tire tech that gripped my wheel with greasy hands. Works like a charm!

I used Sonax and it was great, but since then I just wipe it down regularly with a damp microfiber and that does it. I will say to be careful not to be too aggressive when cleaning, because I got some pilling on my shifter that way.

Talking

Sonax based on recommendations here…. but it’s clear this Alcantara material is a terrible choice for normal non-track daily use (without racing gloves)… oh, wait a minute - maybe we all have to start wearing string back leather driving gloves like some crusty British vintage MGB driver…

Couple drops of Dawn dish soap in warm water,, an old worn soft toothbrush, and microfiber towel, damp, not soaked. Comes out like brand new.
