Demand will encourage aftermarket supply. There's still guys building Flathead Fords so no reason to panic.

I have not found any related federal law that would require manufacturers to sustain parts supply after all warranties expire, but I agree that the aftermarket should help us who want to keep these cars long term out.

These aren't issue free cars. It's not like a Toyota that can run problem free for 10+ years out of the box with nothing but oil and maybe some brake pads. To your point, I could see parts becoming hard to find in 5-8 years since GM has all but said F'it as to the Camaro and given up some time ago.
Well it's not like a certain date is is set and instantly every part are not available. All I now for a fact is gm has discontinued a crap load of parts for the prior 5th gen. I had also observed how many parts they discontinued for say my 2011 Silverado. Yet I'm willing to bet that over 90-95% of parts are still available for our 2012 Altima and 2011 Mazda 3 from when I looked last year. I mean it's pretty f'ing pathetic that I have a 8 year old Camaro with under 10,000 miles and feel like I have to treat it like a 20-30 year old car at this point. Not sure about Ford nowadays but I know they kept parts availability pretty high back in the early to mid 2000's.

I am not too worried about it. Parts for my 1982 corvette are not too hard to find most of the time. Sure there are always a few things that are hard to come by but often things I need are in stock at my local auto parts store still being built by AC Delco. Plenty of Gen 6's were made and many parts are interchangeable with other GM models.

I would worry about specialty parts, 1LE and ZL1 are at the highest risk of having parts shortage, for this reason, I've been thinking about buying a spare set of MRC dampers and stash them away, e-diff is another big ticket item that I fear will have shortages in the future or Camaro specific stuff with no aftermarket like the interior lighting.

Other things, not so much, doubt any engine part will ever be difficult to find or to switch to the aftermarket, breaks, trans, cooler are easy to go aftermarket or are shared between a lot of vehicles.

I sometimes buy parts in advance for this very reason.

For example, my grill cracked (I was dumb, at the track, parking with no e-brake due to HOT brakes, but was on a slight decline and rolled into my buddy's tow hitch). I fixed it (pretty damn well if I do say so myself -- it's barely noticeable) with plastic weld. But I also purchased a new grille and it's been sitting in my garage for months. I'll replace it at some point, but I'm not in a rush.

Similarly, when removing my passenger seat, I scratched up the sill garnish molding. I ordered up a new part and will keep it on hand.

That said, I'm still able to buy *some* parts from GM for my 2011 CTS Wagon and my 2001 WS6. More stuff available for the CTS than the TA.

Typically, parts are on contract for 10-15 years after end of production. Yes, sometimes contracts are broken, but that usually isn't something likely to happen until near the 10-year mark, and if this does happen, there is a large build of parts prior to cease of part production; then some aftermarket supplier may buy up the business and keep making parts for as long as it makes business sense for them.

I wouldn't worry about this with the 6th gen Camaro, especially since there are a variety of parts shared with the other alpha platform cars.

In respect to any currently backorder components: that's likely related to geo-politics or lasting repercussions from the pandemic within global supply chain.

ICE engines aren't going anywhere for probably another decade. It's simply just not feasible or sustainable to just phase them out like that.

They are required by US Federal Law to have parts available for any models they sold for the period of 10 years.

Usually somebody like Year One purchases all the tooling for parts. Camaro's will always have parts available. A Yugo or Kia... not so much.

Federal law states that car manufactures must maintain certain parts for 10 years. When I work at GM as a job setter, we would grease the hell out of the dies after a model was discontinued or model year changes.

After the dies had been stored for years, usually outside, we would bring them back in. Where they would be cleaned up, inspected, fixed or repaired before we set them up again to build up an inventory. Then the dies were destroyed or dumped in the land fills, never to be seen again.

See my post.

There is money to be made in service parts. So tools are kept around for business purposes and to make sure customers can keep their cars around which is also a business purpose. But there is no law.

Show us this Federal Law. I have seen the 10 year requirement mentioned on this site and other sites, but no one has ever been able to show evidence of this law. I don’t think it exists or else it’s very well hidden.
