Supercharger Belt Snapped

Supercharger belt blew and took a few parts with it. I believe the parts I need are the crankcase vent tube, thermostat housing and belt.

Can anyone help me with part numbers? I'm stranded at the track 😐

Has this happened to anyone else on a stock LT4?

Thanks

Looks like your car is pretty much stock so that’s a little unusual. It happened to me but way way way cranked up boost lol…. I advise everyone running a blower to run the AMP billet thermostat housing so that way this doesn’t happen again. Belt breakage with the stock housing will always result in an absolute effing mess…! You’re better off trailering the car home and cleaning that mess up IMO. I’d bet money it screwed up your other 2 accessory belts too.

Thanks. Yeah I was surprised this happened on a mostly stock car.

I was able to find a thermostat housing and supercharger belt after trekking around to a few autozones and o'reillys. I also grabbed some 3/8" & 5/16" fuel line hose to try and mend the crankcase vent tube temporarily.

I'd really love to be able to drive the car home. I'm at VIR, about 8 hours from home. Hoping the damage isn't worse than what I've already noticed. Lost a lot of coolant, but I'm thinking that came from the broken overflow on the thermostat housing. I'll inspect it all better in the morning.

I'm also going to check out AMP billet thermostat and a Gates RPM belt to hopefully avoid any issues in the future.

I think the crankcase vent tube that is broken is part number 12687313, but it looks to be discontinued. Anyone have any idea if that's the right part number and if there's a new part number that may have replaced the discontinued part?

I’m surprised you were able to find the parts you did! Nice work.

Make sure the broken belt didn’t get entangled into the other belts, messing them up. That happened to me.

Best of luck getting this all figured out! Give some thought to a trailer to bring your car to the track going forward lol…

I will inspect everything thoroughly tomorrow. Thanks!

I am also in the market for a trailer. Shame on me for not prioritizing that purchase.

Here's a quick PDR clip. I was very confused at first, thought I had driven over a pile of gravel since that was what it sounded like. After the flying belt pieces came the coolant.

the upper idler is a common failure and has been the problem for a few here. It caused the same issue on an '18 ZL1 A10 owned by Mojo Scott at VIR as well. He replaced the belt and it immediately shredded again due to the idler locking up. Double check it turns freely...it is the ribbed on directly below the supercharger snout.

Is there an aftermarket upgrade for the upper idler to prevent this failure?

Not ZLE but similar issue happened to me in my Audi Q7. The underlying issue was not the belt - it was the pulley that had seized. The mechanic explained to me that it’s rare for belts to break at this age or come off - generally it’s a pulley.

Get this by AMP and it won't take out your cooling if it happens again. Definitely needed if you build your engine.
