One thing to note which I just learned myself...

2023 model year is the first where the owner's manual recommends oils that meets the dexosR specification for 6.2L. Same on the 2023 Vettes.

Unlike previous model years which stated dexos1 5W-30 is ok if dexos2 0W-40 is not available, the 2023 owner's manual notes, "If 0W-40 dexosR oil is not available, SAE 5W-30 dexosR full synthetic engine oil may be used for street use." No longer is dexos1 mentioned.

So, again, purely to ensure full warranty compliance, I'd recommend using only dexosR on 2023+ SS / ZL1.

Uh, Is Dextos2 DextosR? Awfully nice of GM to make this as difficult as possible LOL!

Well, I am using M1 Supercar so there is that.

The M1 Supercar 0W-40 is dexosR. dexosR supersedes dexos2

My 2023 manual (the HP supplement) still says 5w30 Dexos1

Interesting. I was basing my post off of the '23 Owner's Manual, but didn't look at the HP supplement for '23

I found a copy of the 2023 High Performance Owner's Manual Supplement.

https://www.veikl.com/d/Chevrolet-Ca...2023-EN-100747

You are correct in that it does state, "If 0W-40 dexosR oil is not available, SAE 5W-30 dexos1 full synthetic engine oil may be used for street use."

My bet is they updated the owner's manual, but not the supplement for 2023. It contradicts the owner's manual. Not a great look -- as if folks weren't already confused enough.

I’m no insider but as a customer and casual observer GM has their head so far up… there’s no telling how long it’s been there, I guess 2008 would make sense in hindsight

Like GM is going to deny a warranty over Dexos....the whole thing is just silly but there is alot of paranoia when it comes to warranties

Amsoil is the better product - if I had a warranty claim I was just tell them whatever they want to hear, knowing full well it had zero bearing on engine failure. I ran Amsoil in GM engines for many years

Is it worth the risk? What if they ask for receipts from oil changes? I'm not gonna argue whether Amsoil is a superior oil and I agree the whole thing is silly, but for a car still under factory warranty, the smartest thing you can do is use GM approved / recommended fluids. There should be a level of paranoia that choices you make do not jeopardize the factory warranty.

dexosR 0W-40
dexos2 0W-40
dexos1 5W-30

Once warranty is up, use whatever the hell you want

Just start adding mod's to the car immediately after you buy it and get it home! That way you will skip feeling paranoia about the warranty!!!! (just kidding)
