Installed H&R Springs, better ride

I installed the H&R springs on my SS 1LE on Monday 3/27. It's only been a couple days but the difference in my ride quality is very noticeable. Hitting the same road bumps or potholes I have in the past the car is far less jarring and it feels like the suspension is actually working now. The ride is much more confidence inspiring as if I am on throttle hard and hit a bump in the road the rear end won't jump and lose traction as easily. The H&R springs are a progressive spring rate spring so part of the spring is softer and part is stiffer, that way the soft part can absorb small jarring bumps while still maintaining a stiff ride.

I highly recommend the springs and besides the better ride quality the car also sits great, still looks OEM but better and still plenty of ground clearance on the lip.

I will be doing an autocross and trackday in April and if there is any noticeable difference there I will comment on it.

Installed yourself? and did you "clock" the suspension bushings?

Are they lower than factory?

With factory bump-stops, all springs are progressive. If your suspension wasn't working before, something was probably wrong with it.

Yeah, the install kicked my ass when I got to the rear because its so hard to reach the bolt heads on the lower arms. Clocking the bushings wasn't hard.

Yes! I bought them used so the springs are already “settled” to ride height and it looks amazing.

Throwing drop springs on usually alters the roll centers, effectively softening the wheel rate. Wheel rate is the real world spring rate the tire sees.

Nothing was wrong with the stock springs these are H&R springs are just much better.

I am interested to see how autocross and track day go. I could see replacing the springs giving you a better quality ride, but I'm curious how it effects performance when you push the car. The magneride is fine tuned to stock suspension so I wonder how it does with the new H&R springs.

This is true there should be a very slight drop in roll center as well as a slight change in the front McPherson strut angle and lower control arm angle and wheel rate is most dependent on the suspension geometry so that will be affected but I would expect that to be negligible compared to the change in spring rate.

The Eibach Pro, do not lower it enough to affect the magneride, not sure about the H&R though....

H&R is definitely on the same boat as eibach. I actually think H&R’s engineering puts them at the top of the pecking order for aftermarket springs. Its the only brand I trust for lowering springs.

You didn't believe me huh? Lol jk

Glad you like em

I tracked the car with the springs and on stock springs with very minimal difference in lap times. I doubt anyone outside of a pro driver would actually be able to tell if you never told them the springs were changed.

I'm pretty competitive at my local autocross and my times have been fairly consistent so I'm curious to see how they affect my time. But either way I would keep them because on the street I love them.
